Ultimately I agree. Some of the most conscious music has politics I disagree with, methods of change I think won’t work or aren’t informed enough, and frankly doesn’t sound good. Music is entertainment and if it doesn’t entertain then why make it more than what it aims to be?
But the music whose politics you disagree with got you thinking about the politics. The societal changes you don't agree with, that music made it a discussion you can have, even if it's with yourself.

I'm hip. I was just agreeing with your last sentence in this post...

...that says that we're the face of the bullshyt.
Yeah, I should have watched the white girls video, I didn’t know she exclusively made trap beats for those types of songs

This is frankly, nonsense.

I’m not listening to music that I think is counter-productive if it doesn’t even sound good.

The problem conscious artists have is that they talk about politics and sound like idiots to people who know what they’re talking about or they speak on science and sound like idiots to people who know what they’re talking about…OR…they have the best intentions at making uplifting content…and it sounds like ass and no one wants to relisten to it.

Participation trophy rap music is just as bad and conscious artists seem to think they’re immune from being ENTERTAINING.

Historically Music amongst Black Folks has NEVER ONLY BEEN "ENTERTAINMENT"!

A piece of the "Soul" of our people and in our music is removed, when "Entertainment" is the only focus, SMH!
Not like he would know

The problem is the anti intellectualism and anti craftsmanship is taking too much space. Music doesn’t have to be too poindexter but you have to admit alot of these artists are slow idiots. You shouldn’t brag about being ignorant. I don’t respect ignorance, buffoonery and people who make a fool of themselves/slow nikkas. Make a good product with depth and quality.
Preach!

How you say something is more important than what you say

I know what you're saying, but lyricals are important. Now being lyrically dense, which is what most people mean when they say 'lyrical'. Yeah that's not important at all, even tho I love that stuff, I understand this.

But words do matter

List the songs that would go off at a party or club?

Go just on YouTube and type in 80s/90s Hip-hop hits. All off them were played in the clubs and parties, unless the tempo was just too slow. Times were different.

Being into Hip-hop and music in general was different back then

My point is y'all can't name 5 "lyrical" tracks that sound great in a club/party setting.

This another case of snobby hip-hop "fans" talking some bullshyt just to talk

That's to you.

I've heard these songs many times in the club

All these are lyrically dense songs. It has nothing to do with snobbery. Thats how the music was before a certain time.

Look before the late 90s. Hip-hop was not the defacto music for all Young Black folks in this land
