Traveling is cool and fun...just not the thing to "flex" about.

:yeshrug:

but people will ALWAYS find a way to look down on somebody for something
This is low key what it comes down to... trying to get out of this habit myself

Traveling def broadens your perspectives though. Just being a black person and going somewhere where we either aren't hated or are even the majority + people in power can really do something positive to your outlook and self esteem

This thread reeks of small town mentality.

I see the point though. Theres a difference between traveling because you genuinely like to travel and traveling just to stunt on other people or to feel like an elitist like "I traveled to whoopity woo and Bangkok so I'm better than you". The latter is annoying as hell. I love traveling too but that's because I genuinely like going to different places. I've never felt the need to put down other people for not wanting to travel or not being able to. Nor do I feel the need to stunt or show off either. Nowadays you can't even tell folks shyt because they get jealous when theres really nothing to be jealous about. They acting like I'm balling or got money like that.

I don't think traveling actually makes you more well rounded, smarter or whatever either. It may make you more aware about certain things but in terms of personality and character, it doesn't matter. shyt should make you more humble actually. If it ain't then you probably doing it for the wrong reasons.

I feel like I've posted in this thread b4, but cant remember...

But yea, I've traveled.

Been was telling nikkaz the shyt is overrated.
But I do tell niggsz that they should travel.

U got to travel not to just say u traveled, but to really get something out of it.
As a black person, get to know something different, so maybe u feel inclined to get the fukk outta this country.

I always get into this debate, and it's always with ppl who havent even traveled as much as me.

Muthafukaz going to resorts, Cancun, Jamaica... just doing regular shyt.
Ur spending money and time doing some shyt that really ain't even helping u.
Muthafukaz havent even been to certain parts of America yet

Its definitely not for everybody. Some people are simple minded as hell and are fine being in one place their whole life. Some people have no game and can't hold conversations. I say this as someone who was stationed overseas in Italy for 5 years surrounded by black folks who literally never wanted to go anywhere besides the base and the sorry ass local clubs that the Americans go to.

I will say that having a good time in a place that you aren't from is mostly dependent on the people you meet there. Some people get into a place where the language they know is not the dominant one and they just shut all the way down. No social skills at all so they aren't even going to attempt to get to know anyone.

Its interesting that people bring up Paris because that was like the number 1 places people used to go and come back "disappointed". My first experience there was the complete opposite. My room was on the hood side of town and when I got their I was able to meet people that showed us around the city. Met a bunch of the club promoters who I'm still cool with today, some who have came to Atlanta and stayed with me. That way I was able to get the drop on what spots to goto, VIP wherever I went, was able to meet a buncha broads and etc.

I don't think its anyway possible that a young single breh my age could have my experience of Paris and still talk down on it. But people don't have social skills so they don't talk to anybody, go to all the tourist spots and clubs in the white neighborhoods and wonder why they didn't have a good time.

@Pazzy I hear what you're saying. People who travel just to brag are beyond obnoxious but it shouldn't deter someone from wanting to see the world.

People that I've met who usually object to travelling have a small town mentality. When you get to experience different cultures and realize that the world is not as racist to black people as the media would have you believe, it really changes your perception.

Malcolm X is a prime example of why travelling is for everyone. Once he went to Mecca, he realized that CACs in America aren't all necessarily the same world wide and he changed his stance on empowerment. Him seeing Muslims of all backgrounds pray together was a pivotal moment for him.

For me, travelling when I was young gave me an incentive to have a much better career so I can travel often. When you rarely leave your home town let alone your country, you have no reason or desire to travel.

I've been all over the world. Traveling depends on who I'm with. I can have a great time the next city over.

The experiencing different cultures everyone parrots is total BS. Not in a few days you arent.

If people couldn't brag and post pictures of travels, they wouldn't go. Traveling is like the club nowadays. looks better in the pictures

I disagree. One of my spots I went to last year was Marrakech in Morocco which I only stayed for 4 days and still got to absorb alot of the culture, meet women and have a dope ass time. You won't become an expert in a few days but you can definitely have a good time and experience something you never have.

That shyt kills me the most. Folks want to go to all these places out the country or way across the country, want to know about this and that culture but never been to certain parts of their town, county or even the state that's next to them or the state over. Ask them about some shyt about where they live and they have no clue.

And the whole "I have no reason to go here even if its local or in my county or the state over to me" excuse is wack too if you're one of those could travel out the country or timbuktu shyt. Not surprised because the same folks dont even know what's going on in their own neighborhood let alone who's their mayor or whatever.

It probly all depends where ur really from.

I've been to Paris and I always tell people, to my surprise, it was kinda hood.
Or basically different than I expected it to be.
Which was very cool.
Buttttt.... I'm from Brooklyn.
There was nothing about it that gave me great pleasure.
It reminded me of being back on flatbush ave... or downtown bk somewhere
Overrated:yeshrug:

Saying I've been to Paris became something that I can just get dumb bytches wet with back in the hood

To the bolded...

U know what bro... I get it tho.

The only reason America is great in my opinion, is because of the people and the cultures that have formed because our interactions with each other.

U would have to go to different countries and different continents to get a whole different flavor... but in America, u can just go 3hrs down 95.
Or a quick flight to texas.
Ull get a whole new vibe.
So when u hear a person say "I have no reason to go there"
For an American that could be true.
nikka we got little Italy's, lil haitis, places with just Puerto Ricans, dominicans.
Places that feel totally different than ur home state.
The people of America, especially the black people make America a place that people want to come to.

You're right. I just can't with that type of mentality to be honestly because its counterproductive. The same way of thinking is what keeps folks from growing or reaching their full potential. I've seen it from other people and been through it myself. Basically, a mentality where someone chooses to not learn a new hobby, do something they always wanted to do because they think they're too old, not read a book, learn a trade, or use as an excuse to not do something with their life. Sometimes, you dont have to even travel far to find out something that could change your life. I can't live like that.

What countries arent racist :jbhmm:
All countries I've been to are just as racist as America if not worst
You can go places in America to areas where people arent racist
I think people perspective on their experiences change because of the expectation they have when traveling
And alot of people respect the American factor so being American trumps the fact your a ******

This. A lot of people are using travel as a form of escapism. People will grind just to leave their lives for a few days and then start the process all over again. Again I like to travel but if you're coming back to some shyt what's the point?

Well I did say "not as racist". You're definitely still going to get small minded idiots. There are countries in Europe that have a strong anti-immigrant atmosphere, especially if you're Arab or African. But for the most part people are cool with you once they hear you're from the west (wrongly or rightly).

Places where they have never seen a black person are just curious. They may stare but not out of disrespect. It really is just curiosity most of the time.

I've been to every continent except Australia.. I hope to visit there soon. I've heard they are :mjpls: but I'll see for myself.

Also, it’s 2020. You don’t need to save and invest. You can get these travel packages for flight and accommodations for a week for like $500-800 dollars. And I’m talking flight and room on the beach in South Africa. Look for deals and packages. All these apps and websites are basically travel agents and all these countries are cheap as fukk outside Europe. Hell even Greece was cheap as fukk once you hit the ground. I go on week vacations and spend $150 eating out 3 meals a day. Don’t let me get an Airbnb with a stove

but that’s another thing you learn in traveling. America is grossly overpriced. For what I spend on a room at VA beach, I can get a week on Copacana. For what I spend at the local beach restaurant or Applebee’s in time square, I can 3 square meals in Rio and some liquor from out the finest establishments
going to South Africa for flight and accomdations for 800 :francis: I aint believing that
Tell me how bruh :patrice:

Omg!!!
To hear the exact same shyt that you say, said in the exact same way... is a great feeling.
People make u think ur crazy for saying it.

But its true... muthafuka, u put off paying ur car note and had to scrap and save... just to have to pack luggage.. get a ride to the airport, get to a new place (which takes like a day or 2 to even get comfortable)
Start to enjoy urself... then 2days before u gotta come back...
You start thinking "fukkkkkk, I gotta go back to that shyt".
Then ur packing, and hoping ur ride is there to meet u at the airport on time.
You came back home wit a t-shirt.

U bought paradise for a week.
I can make my paradise anywhere, everyday for the low:yeshrug:

(Sorry for the rant)
