he may be one of those who is overrated to a point to where he is underrated. popular with the younger crowd and also with some older heads who need something more mainstream to get excited about. product of a hype machine? yes. a plant? no. he is either a guy you gonna like or not for whatever reason or another. @up in here made a good point....you have to feel a connection to his music. me personally, I cant rock with it. but he does have skill.

he deserves all his prizes for best artists and best lyricsts and best albums of the last 2 years, it's well deserved because objectively, nobody has released a better album than gkmc, and I'm not even a fan.

i agree with OP. at first i was all about the hype he was getting. but since i listened to his album about 3 times through, dissected it and came to the conclusion that i'm not actually listening to someone my head (and the media) has built him up to be. to be honest, his flow can be subpar at times and some of his metaphors and lyrics are just

i've found people who most don't appreciate are better, including some in his own group. i think the fact that it was a concept album that hasn't been heard by the masses in a long time has given it most of the hype it has gotten, over shading the subpar wordplay and metaphors.

thought he was overrated but tbh his album was incredible, he proved that he had one of the msot complex flows in the rap game (the transition between different level of rhythms are just on another level) and his lyrics are incredible, dude can paint pictures with his lyrics like no one else, he is a genius to me, the next big thing.
