I get that WNBA pay is low compared to the NBA, but is $60k-$250k a year (+ benefits) to hoop even "bad"?

I understand they ain't rich rich (outside a few stars with shoes) :hubie:

But 60-250k to play basketball for four months? Is that not a better life/job than like 98% of the US population? It is clearly a growing league going in a positive direction. By the time the current new crop starts retiring I think they'll be around 500k- 1 million tbh :yeshrug:

I don’t know the economics so I’m not sure what is a fair pay for them. But in situations like this, it’s not really about how much more you make than the average person, it’s about getting paid what you are worth.

If you make 10 million a year and you are responsible for generating 100 million a year, you gonna wanna get paid more because you’re gonna feel like you’re underpaid compared to your worth.

I definitely think there should be a minimum of at least $100k per year. Even that is barley a livable wage in places like Manhattan. I dont know the economics of WNBA or the league. But I definitely can understand how the teams struggle to make money. I believe most WNBA teams are owned by NBA owners or billionaire owners looking to virtual signal with the equality agenda. Women sports definitely have a lane into fashion and marketing through 'sex' you are already seeing it with players like Angel Reese and Rickeya Jackson. Problem is to be a good basketball player you need to be very tall and height is not really seen as sexy in women. This is the reason the WNBA struggles.

No it isn't.
That's average use salary

They are professionals making a salary that allows them to play for 4 months and get the pay it takes most Americans 12 months to get.
I said for a professional league, average US salary is irrelevant.

The 4 month point is also stupid because athletes are not getting another job for 8 months unless its another basketball league which some do.

I don't care that you said professional league. They get the average salary of Americans in a quarter of the time.

You are so ignorant that you aren't aware that female athletes in the WNBA typically subsidize their income by going to play overseas in Europe. So WNBA makes them more likely to be picked up in foreign leagues.
