So next year for the month of February my company is looking for employees to volunteer to distribute gifts and food to women affected by homelessness.
As soon as I read that I was like why would we differentiate between gender for homelessness?????

At the same time I could see women being affected by homelessness in different ways than men are, but at the end of the day i'm not sure by how much.
At the end of the day if you don't have a place to live you don't have a place to live.

I'm in IT so i'm surrounded by such initiatives, not homelessness related but you know the whole push for Women in IT, and women getting awards that are only for women, women's celebration dinners/events bla bla bla.
Whatever, i'm okay with that.

But for that to bleed into homelessness................
Am I bugging? I'm not terribly offended by it, but it's quite the eyebrow raise man.
And to the thread subject title, i'm a little pissed, so I mean that literally, just a little pissed, but maybe mostly confused I don't know..

Thoughts?

ya i completely agree women have it worse
but when i see homeless people I usually mostly see men

Not to say women being homeless is not a thing, you go around NY you'll see a few sleeping on cardboard boxes in the heat of the sun.

It just doesn't feel right I guess...

Homeless women with their kids in a shelter. The kids are at risk of being preyed on by lowlifes. Bring some holiday cheer to their lives.

I don't see how you can feel a way about helping someone who has nothing.
