Do you just ask for an increase or ask them to increase it for a certain amount. Like can I say “I want 20k limit “

My criteria is this:

After I get a pay bump
I try to time a heavy spending month on a specific card
I then ask for the credit limit increase (specific amount) -- I ask for amounts that I'm confident will be approved

Some CC companies won't approve a high limit if you don't spend enough

The higher income and a good credit score shows your worthy of the increase

For reference, I have an AMEX at $40k and a Navy Fed at $25k...my credit score is about 820 and I make 6 figures

I'll be requesting my next increase in July...after a vacay to Jamaica (increased spending) and my merit increase at work

navy federal - $500. Got it a month ago

Citi - $1000. Month ago

Capital one - $2000 month ago

Capital one - $2000 3 years ago

Discover - $4500 3-4 years ago

Victory secret- $700. Never use it
If navy got you at $500 something is off. They giving out 25k out the gate. What percentage utilization are you at?

My utilization high.

This is part of your problem.

You need to lower your utilization and/or increase your income. A lender bases its decision on risk, why would they lend to someone who is already using a ton of their credit? It’s a messed up game, but part of the game nonetheless.

I’m

what’s the secret to getting a high limit
Start with a high limit card to begin with. For example cards under the visa signature brand START with 5k MINIMUM. If you start with a high limit card you already ahead of the game. You only do the low limit card to start and build with, after that jump to high limit ASAP.

Then you ask for credit raise ASAP, sometimes that 3 months or 6 months in. And you do it like clockwork, EVERY interval, so if its a 6 month card, you put reminder ever 6 months to hit they ass up. Sometimes, you can hit them up online for increase then call in and get 2 increases in same time, I did that by mistake and it worked.

So for example you START with a visa signature or equivalent at 5k, you request increase down line, you get bumped to 15k, then you do a double and you at 40k in like 9 months on one card. Happened to me. Had couple visa signatures and was love..

Try to keep you limits low also.

navy has this weird thing where they give ur 2nd card a big ass credit limit for some weird reason

toll thread but i can't figure out why people be having so many CCs. i stick with two main ones and a backup that doesn't leave the house, i just have it paying subscriptions like hulu and spotify. my main two are a cash back/rewards card and a travel rewards, using them frequently helps me rack up perks/rewards faster vs spreading purchases across 5/6/7 cards

Sometimes you can just use the card and go over the supposed amount.

But try to keep your credit card use to a minimum breh. I have 2 cards really. 1 main use, and one as a backup in case the other gets flagged for disputed charges.

Navy Fed is probably the easiest one to get an increase. I have a $20,000 limit. But I rarely go over $2000 in any given month.

Most if not all of them won’t increase until you’ve built up an on time payment history. It can be anywhere from 3 months to a year.

SOME CARDS HAVE RULES FOR GETTING INCREASES.

NAVY FED - YOU WILL NEED TO WAIT 90 DAYS OR 3 STATEMENTS BEFORE ASKING. 6 MONTHS AFTER A PRODUCT CHANGE.

MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE HOUSEHOLD INCOME AND NOT YOUR PERSONAL INCOME. ALSO DO HALF OF THE RENT FOR THE MORTGAGE SECTION IF YOU LIVE WITH A SPOUSE.

THERE ARE TONS OF VIDEOS ON EVERY CARD AND THE RULES.
