TR's metacritic is an 87 so it's not like I have anything to be ashamed about
Currently playing it myself. I've enjoyed it so far. Story may seem preposterous some times but it's a decent game.

Tomb raider has been around since the 90s. They had a lot more time to tweak and adjust.Fair
But thats the THIRD GAME of the series. They've had time to rehash and tweak. Tomb Raider is a reboot, brand new only a year old.
Tomb Raider and Drake's Fortune have nearly identical ratings. With Tomb Raiders being slightly better and they both debuted on last gen consoles.

In fact the studio behind the reboot has made 4 tomb raider games prior.
It being a reboot is irrlevant, it was there 5th tomb raider game.
It was just this time they made tomb raider:uncharted edition.
If nd reboots uncharted people arent going to say the other ones dont count and its there first game.

The thing is...Tomb Raider isn't a bad game at all. The best part is the combat. The upgradeable weapons were a nice touch. The traversal elements were good. The cast is a bunch of stereotypical tropes: The black single mother with the attitude problem, the shy tech nerd, the spiritual Samoan,it was insulting. The story was serviceable. The puzzles were a joke: They boiled down to burn this thing and jump on that thing.The set pieces were good (Trying to do their best Uncharted impression but good none the less)The multiplayer isn't even worth mentioning.
When Tomb Raider 2013 became the antithesis of Uncharted. Before the reboot, Tomb Raider was just there. Series retained a following but it hasn't been a big deal since the PS1 days.

I never got to beat the OG Tomb Raider, I'd always get stuck in the second stage in the Mountains
I just played the Training Level in the Mansion
Play the new one, shyt is so easy you barely even need to think to finish it. Garbage game, represents everything wrong with modern gaming.

It's not the fact that people liked it, but ever since it became exclusive it's all of a sudden on par with UC2, one of the BEST games of last generation. It's clear what the real motive is. Keep the fanboy bias out of it.
And funny you bring up reviews, Metacritic pretty much confirms what I'm saying after a quick look up. UC2>UC3>UC1>TR
