I disagree, and I think you're being unnecessarily defensive. Whether it was out of a gas mask, a double barrel shotgun, or a G/V, the data "suggests" there's a possible connection between mental regression and long term marijuana use especially for those who've used marijuana since their teenage years. For the record, Nas is my personal GOAT, and I'm happy to say I finally got a chance to watch Time Is Illmatic for the first time last night. Something I got a kick out of while watching was, he didn't come off as foggy as I've typically seen him in interviews. I guess that's the blessing of having your own documentary done by stans. Maybe they taped the best footage of him, or maybe his mind was clear during the recordings. I say that because, he's got a history of interviews where his thoughts aren't connecting too well, almost like those synapses are experiecing a short circuit. I remember when him and Bill O'Reilly got into it, and I was cringing at the thought of him going on that show trying to debate. When Don Lemon had the panel on race relations a year or so ago, and it was announced that Nas will be featured on one session, I was cringing at the thought of him expressing his thoughts on race. Thankfully he didn't say too much and in a way I was both disappointed and relieved, if that makes sense.
My point is, Nas is the GOAT in the booth and with a pen and a pad. He's far from unintelligent, but his inability to articulate his thoughts at times reminds me of myself when I've been drinking. I might not be completely faded, but I'm conscious enough to recognize that my thought processes are temporarily hindered. Usually the day after my memory is off, and my motor skills are altered. It's amazing too the clarity after getting out of that funk. That said, with as much as Nas smokes, and has been smoking, that study makes sense in relation to his interviews.
It was actually monkeys in gas masks being pumped with the equivalent of 100 joints for hours. Look it up.
Nas just had a terrible performance at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Tx and I was there to see it with my own eyes and it hurt me because I am a huge Nas fan.
He was scheduled to perform the Illmatic album in its entirety + some of his other hits. The crowd was huge, and everyone was pumped for Nas, the subway car sounds from the intro of illmatic came on and people were going crazy, Nas should of had this show in the palm of his hand.
He comes out and raps new york state of mind, he seemed to be doing quite a bit of crowd interaction shyt(where he would start out a line and the audience would finish it) which was kinda cool at first because the crowd was so into it. However in the next couple songs it started to become apparent that Nas did not remember some of the lyrics to his songs and he did not have the breath control he once had. I wanted to give him a pass, illmatic came out 20 years ago of course he is gonna miss a couple words here and there I told myself and maybe he's lost some steps along the way. The crowd was still into it.
As he went through the songs of Illmatic he started to miss more and more words in his verses, he even started to miss entire bars and to cover it up he was trying to act like he was doing crowd interaction where the crowd was supposed to finish the bar. The crowd was still hype even after he finished fumbling through It Aint Hard To Tell. I still had hope that once Nas started playing his newer songs he would surely have them memorized better and would really show everyone at FFF Fest why he is considered a legend.
The next song Nas played was The Message and it became instantly apparent he had not memorized this song or the drugs/alcohol he ingested before the show were really starting to take effect. Nas began to rap a couple words in each bar at the most, doing it confidently as if it was some new style he was trying. The crowd started to become noticeably less into it.
He started to run through other songs like If I Ruled The World and Made You Look, at this point in the show Nas was rapping so poorly it sounded like he was just doing what a hype man would do for him, saying the last word in the bar, saying "YEAH" and then saying the next rhyming word at the end of the bar. The crowd was very not into the show at this point, Nas tried to get a "BRAVE HEARTS" chant started at the beginning of Made You Look and got basically nothing in response. Awkward.
Nas ended with One Mic, as the beat to one mic started to play he explained to the crowd that he usually brings his brother out on stage and tells the story about how his brother helped him write the song, he asked the DJ to restart the beat so he could tell the story, the beat restarted, Nas told the crowd that he had writers block and that his brother came up with the first 4 lines and Nas did the rest, as he "finished" the story he tried to go right into rapping the beginning of One mic but fukked it up instantly, he asked the DJ to restart the beat claiming he didnt get to finish the story. Nas again begins again to tell the story of how his brother came up with the first 4 lines and that its so hard to write new albums all the time but doesnt finish the story up before he was supposed to start rapping, he asks the DJ to restart the beat. This time nas finally gets through the story and successfully raps the first 4 lines (then added in "this is where I took over") and then began to rap the rest of the verse, occasionally missing whole bars again, Nas tried to end the verse all hype and energizezd to get a big applause break during the chorus but he got NOTHING. It was so quiet, the audience was sick of his bullshyt at this point and nas could feel it. He loudly sighed into the mic and then sat down on stage and poorly rapped the next verse to his song, stood up again, sat down on the ground again to rap his last verse then got up and said "THanks thats all i have to say" and walked off stage, people gave him respect and clapped for him but it was a tepid response at best.
TLDR I smoked 2 blunts at a Nas concert and Nas performed terribly. Nas Lost.
it was a bummer, a couple of my friends i was with left before Nas' set was overI've been a Nas fan from his begining. Tupac is my number one artist, but there was never any question as to Nas being my second favorite. I'm one of those ex-90s old farts who can rap every lyric on illmatic from having listened to it so much, etc.
So you can imagine how much this pains my heart reading this
Just no excuse for it
I'm so glad I didn't witness it, and it must've been just as hard for all the other nas fans who did have to witness it.![]()
Yeah, I agree with that study but, I don't think its the herb as much as the lifestyle associated with those herb users. They probably just puff, and sit around. If you puff, and be active, I have a theory you would be more intelligent then others. If you vape or eat your herb, you will really be more intelligent then most because your brain is more active, and because you eat healthy, along with being active, you have more connections in the brain. More connections is a sign of high intelligence. With Nas, and other smokers, who don't eat right, and not that active, they are experiencing what most nonusers will experience, just earlier. If anything they will be better then nonusers because their brains will be active, if they keep puffing as they get older. That still doesn't take away from the fact that they should be active, and eat better, so they can have strong brains. I really wish these studies would use people who puff that eat right, and do daily exercises so we can see how much better they are then nonusers.I think you have it mixed up with another study. From the link I originally posted below. See the bolded breh. This study involved people.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/10/health/pot-and-your-brain/index.html?iref=allsearch
There were 48 marijuana users enrolled in this study. All started smoking between age 14 and 30. The average age of the person enrolled in the study was 18. On average they used marijuana three times a day. Most said they had been using it for 10 years, although some had been smoking pot for three decades.

please no pimp c disrespect in this thread RIPGood post been, I appreciate your thoughts as I've never smoked but what you mentioned about lifestyle makes sense. Lot of the dudes I've known that smoked on the regular didn't take good care of themselves. A lot of recreational drug users don't. chad Butler comes to mind. I would be curious about how active and healthy people's brains perform despite Marianas use.
Yea... u showed ur hand with this quote, brehIt is true this is not a joke Nas lost thread, I really left thinking he is maybe an alcoholic or drug addict now
