Booed for not being black enough. Then when you tell people that black people judge other black people based on their "blackness", you're considered the problem and you're insulted further.
you insult yourself with that user name. your wear your blackness like a burden. even though everything you said is true you still come off like a bitter self hater.

Why didn’t MJ get the same hate at the 89 soul Twain awards? Breh literally turned white and went fully pop with “Bad.”

I mean he was already over with Thriller but he was definitely abandoning his black fan base with Bad. That’s why he went New Jack with the Dangerous album. He knew he had to come back to his roots.

Was it because he was black royalty in music and had been putting in the work? And Whitney came across as a manufactured artist?

This is like calling OutKast a pop group because they had crossover appeal and got booed at the Source Awards

Blasphemous behavior.

This is disingenuous

NYC had no patience for anything not NYC hence why OutKast was booed

The negative sentiment towards Whitney was not limited to that building

The rocky relationship between Whitney & the black community during the 80s has been highlighted & acknowledged within Whitney Docs

Sharpton lead a protest against Whitney

it’s not to say everybody hated Whitney because the numbers say otherwise but there was a cloud over her head

This was not a game

Whitney would have like 6 singles per album. It must be a regional thing because she was putting up numbers with popularity down south.

Just because she had crossover appeal doesn’t mean black folks didn’t rock with her. There was just an abundance of great music and artists to choose from.

Imagine having to choose which concert to go to: Whitney, Luther, the DeBarges who were still popular and that’s not even mentioning a-listers like Prince and Mike

Naw, the debarge crew was all but finished after 85' drugs took them down.

So, whitney got no songs like that

once again, there's more to music than just having a BIG VOICE

Janet has way better music than Whitney Houston its not even debatable

Jennifer Hudson can sing EVERY WHITNEY HOUSTON SONG, they hard songs to sing if you have a big voice, they are designed for that

Prince handled it poorly and his music suffered for it.
I mean Prince seemed to go back to that funk sorta sound. I dont think he ever truly respected rap though due to sampling.

I give him major props because he could've easily continued to make easily digestible pop music AKA Purple Rain but he didn't.
