I mean, the script did them no favors but their rationale for how they handled the accident in this one was so stupid lmao. Made this set of mfs look way dumber than the OG and their bad decision making and that's pretty tough to do. Had me like

When the foundation of the story doesn’t have any legs, we got a problem. shyt brought back memories of me winning races in Need for Speed: Carbon by default because mfs would foolishly crash off the cliffs.

Writing makes the newest Scream look like a masterpiece in comparison, lol. Literally stared at the screen afterwards for a solid five minutes at the audacity, then it hit me with a post credits scene.
I think these are more structural issues with filmmaking, but none of these movies look natural anymore. The camera moves so fast. The writing is like 90% exposition or Tik Tok insipred banter. The sets don't look real or natural, even though I can tell they shot somewhere on location. It's like a weird filter.
They are also making every movie with IP like a Marvel thing. I don't watch those, but I know the post credit scenes and the 'lore', and the whole thing. Also the weird remarks about male trauma and all that. The fact is movies are now pandering towards social media, the way legacy media did, in a sense. But movies now, both play to social media and play for social media. The want to be in the memes and the reaction videos or whatever, used as GIF's.
I can't even really reasonably evaluate anything else. I love mystery slashers and found something to enjoy here, but it's not done very well, despite a big budget. The story doesn't really work and even basic stuff like the accident....They were playing in the road and a car went over? That's the coverup? I think you could make a really good slasher with one or two murders, and just a lot of real tension, which this movie doesn't even really try for.

"Yes, he's a drunk, but he was there for me"
As much as the Nicole Kidman line was kinda funny, is that really the way drunk and high 22 year olds who live in NC talk? And have zero connection to the movie business talk? No, that's the 25/45 year old writers who lives in West LA, would think that was funny.
So the audience barely has to pay attention. So much of the movie like lurches around, it's clunky, and doesn't flow. I appreciate Hewitt as professor, give her a minute to be re introduced. Spend a second on the campus. Show a shot of the leaves falling or students walking. The camera just like twitches away from each scene. Why don't directors use tracking shots anymore? I have been watching De Palma's movies, and he often shoots a character slowly creeping into the scene. Very creepy. A lot of movies don't have sense of time or place anymore. They are aiming squarely a social media, a place with zero sense of time or place.
What were they even doing in that graveyard? and how did that whole scene lack any tension? In a graveyard? Why were the shots so close and tight? Where are all the extras? Even just slowing down the movie, and letting it breathe would have improved even the medicore plot twists. Let the boat rock and sway in the quiet for an extra 90 seconds.
