I like Kendrick's music but I don't know what any of his songs are about

This dude be rappin his ass off. Rhymes for days. Flow is phenomenal. Voice is crazy. Beats are sick. Overall concepts are cool.

But ultimately I don't get the message of his songs.

And dude brought up Swimming Pools and it got me thinking about this...I've heard ppl say it's about alcoholism but I don't hear that shyt...All I hear is words...wtf is it about Kendrick's style that makes it difficult to soak in?

He's worse in that sense than Nas or Lupe ever were

I know what he means and I think it's cuz his verses are very patchy sentences. It's hard to explain but he sacrifices words in order to make his flow sound better. Sometimes this makes it hard to really grasp what he's saying.
