I find myself listening to soul, funk, old school R&B and even pop

Anyone feel like this?

100% You articulated what I have been feeling for years. Hip-hop is one of those genres that has Peter Pan syndrome, it never grows up. It's tragic to see many of it's listens didn't mature either. Your world perception as a teen to late 20s is not the same as when up grow up. I am a music snob and listen to everything from Leontyne Price, Charles Mingus to Young Thug, however hip-hop doesn't do it for me and I often find myself turning it off. Makes for good workout music though.

I've always maintained that if cacs invented hip hop, we'd be hearing an entirely different narrative on the genre. Hip hop would be praised as total genius instead of 'lazy music stealing'.

Alas, cacs must cac

Its nothing but trap beats which are the same drum patterns and a bunch of synth chords. Its nothing like the loops that were taken from soul samples, those involved actual instruments and musical progression.
Got you. I misunderstood - couldn't agree with you more.

Sure.
Three youtube guitarists that would smoke B.B. on pure technique :

*I love B.B. King, his brilliance came in it's simplicity so I'm not knocking simplicity at all.
You asked for proof so I brought it.

Yeah as for "Well Structured Music Albums" Budden wasn't the only one, were you in a coma last year or something ?
Albums below :
I didn't put a picture for it but Skyzoo's Music For My Friends is another well
thought out album with great musicianship AND rapping.

And we have a whole host of artists that essentially talk down on older artists in the genre, discouraging life experience and wisdom

I'm inclined to agree, living the Charlie Sheen/Michael Corleone/OG lifestyle get old?

I have always said Hip Hop is a young man's genre.

Or maybe because I lived through the golden age of this game and the quality of today is so poor and haphazard, it has burned me out and turned me away from it.

The last year I could deal with it and support it via cd/tape purchases was 02/03....

Now, I still enjoy watching rap battles and ciphers (even though they are mostly writtens), but at least it tends to be more creative and an actual element of Hip Hop...

I can never get tired of hip-hop when songs like these exist:

I love songs from other genres as well, like rock. Whenever I need something aggressive, I always go to that genre. But my heart always goes back to hip hop. The things this genre has done for my life..............:mjcry:.

I don't agree with you on the sampling thing (I will never understand it when a rap fan says that), but if this is how you feel about hip hop now, then that's just fine.

Im %100 with you OP.

I've been listening to more old shyt from the 80's to early/mid 00's (with 2008 being the cut off point).
I'll still check out what's new every now and then but hip hop to me now is like:yeshrug:.

Hell I've been listing to old r&b and pop music more than rap.:ld:
