I cannot cosign advising someone to buy a 17 year old car. how reliable is a car really that is that old?
:why: It don't matter HOW old it is, as long as it was maintained properly IT'S reliable... You think people use your logic when buying 50 year old Ferraris?

And for a car as accessible & modular as a Honda Civic, there is absolutely no reason why you can't fix or diagnose the source of a problem/potential problem.

Point is that these cars were DESIGNED to last as long as they've lasted.

The Ferrari argument holds no weight as no one would use a classic car as a daily driver.

Take your existing vehicle to separate mechanics, get estimates on what it would take to repair the problems. This is far more ideal than taking out a loan for another pre-owned vehicle

My car is 15 years old and paid off & I despise car payments

But it's getting to the point where it's breaking down, small shyt here and there and I don't want to sink money continuously into it

Trade in value probably isn't even $1k

Coli financial planners give me some advice
Buy your car cash. If you don't have the cash then save until you do.

Stay away from consumer debt and debt in general. The only real acceptable debt I'm my opinion is a house.

The beginning of this year I put $2500 into a 2002 car that's probably not even worth that. To me I'd rather put that into that car than have a car note.

Treat cars like an appliance if it does the job and is serviceable its fine.

Don't listen to people who tell you different, breh...

Do whatever you can to NOT EVER have another car payment in your life.

Just save up your cash and buy a cheap car at first, or if you can afford to save to get a better car then do that. Ride the bus, walk, buy a bicycle, take an Uber, whatever, until you can just afford to buy a car outright.

Just dropped more on repairs than what my car is worth :francis:
If it keeps the car running for a long enough period of time then that's a good move because you own the car outright so no payments. The value of the car to you is more important than what someone else would pay.

In late December I put about 5 month worth of car payments into my 2002 car and in 7 months I've had no issues since. I'm back in the positive because if I got a new car I'd be 7 months into a several years long finance deal.
