Best way to check the car is to fill it up with gas, lower the oil levels to optimal levels, then just let it sit in your driveway running for a couple of hours to let the engine get the bad oil out.....after a couple of hours it should be still running if its a good car and you'll be good to go:thumbsup:

yeah its def a plus if you know a mechanic.if you can make sure you at least get the title history

so you know how well it was maintained including oil changes. sometimes you can come up on a good salvaged title

depending on what happened.also you might want to check out police auctions

2000 is too little, you are going to end up with a 1980 car with problems, I saved for 3 years and bought a 2012 camry for 13K. I did buy it from my uncle though who lets me pay him monthly. Having a family member as a car dealer is great. I would say at least save 5-10K before buying one
