The I in Team
Before melo got washed he was one of the top dudes at putting the ball in the hole. Dude had the footwork, the midrange, the long ball and when all else failed bully ball. Dude was great at beating a nikka in the post and just forcing the ball in the hole. shyt let’s not even go into put backs. shyt it seemed like he missed shots in the paint so he could get another rebound and score.

Anyway I’m not surprised by this thread. The Coli just lives in the moment and if you haven’t done it in the last five minutes it never counted.

One of the best scorers of his time. Still has a career average of 24 points a game, and during his prime averaged 27.

I never thought he was on LeBron's level but Bron is a top 5 player all time. Melo is more of a top 100 player.
Melo career stats are as good if not better than some top 50 players at his position

He was never a two way player, he wasn't a good defender. :francis:

His face up game, quick first step, jab steps, midpost game, jumper off screens, shooting in transition, his quick second leap allowed him to get offensive rebounds and a lot of putbacks, he could bully his way to the rim with his quickness and strength, and he was clutch. He's lost all his lift and first step over the years. When he was younger he used to dunk all the time. In his prime he had one of the smoothest jumpers the game has seen.

To me his biggest flaw was that he loved the jumpshot too much he became a very poor finisher at the rim, poor shot selection too much isolation, he wasn't a willing passer out of double teams, wasn't a good defender, was kinda injury prone, didn't run P&R's enough/make that a more viable part of his game, he didn't push the ball in transition to the rack enough, never got his body into peak condition which coupled with injuries led to a quick athletic decline. I think Melo still got juice in the league, I believe he could be "Olympic Melo" in the right system with the right players around him (Houston). Melo is washed but he still deserves to be in the league.

This is what rookie Melo looked like, kind of a cross of Jayson Tatum and Jabari Parker.

Part of his poor finishing around the basket was that he changed up his game down there, once he stopped getting calls. He would get mauled down there and wouldn't get a single FT call. And they never had a p&R team in NY. Who was rolling to the basket the entire time he was there? He'll, he barely had a shooter. Knicks org fumbled every opportunity to get him legit teammates. His passing is underrated and he and Porzingis had been establishing a nice 2-man game.

There's flaws in every players game, but Melo's main problem is that he was a tradition 3 in a league that had gone away from it. OKC didn't use him in the midrange enough, especially not early enough in the clock, which is his strength. He's still good enough in the catch-n-shoot but it takes longer for him to catch a rhythm out there.

He was never top 5 in his prime how could he be top 5 now. By the way Leonard, George, Bron, KD and Giannis are all better than he was in his prime.
What has Giannis done to put him over prime Melo? :dahell:

Let him get out of the first round in the East before we say that.

PG ain’t better than prime Melo either

I do agree that he does get mauled inside and doesn't get calls but he also misses a lot of easy finishes. He doesn't have the same lift and as quick a second jump as he once had and he jumps vertically off two which leads to him getting blocked or having his shots altered a lot.

Melo CAN pass, but he loses faith in his teammates quickly and he doesn't see or pass out of doubles as good as a Durant for example. Lol what you mean? He had Tyson Chandler and Amar'e Stoudemire, both guys were ELITE P&R finishers. Part of it was Amar'e's health but even when they were out there they didn't mesh, it took until the end for them to start playing P&R and gaining chemistry.

Melo did not spend enough time as a P&R ball handler regardless of personnel it could have helped his game. :manny:

To me Melo's main problem isn't that he's a traditional 3, it's his lack of first step and lift. There's still a lot of players who play in the triple threat and in the midpost.

I saw PG beat Melo in a Game 7 and help him to 1 point in the forth quarter. Also Giannis didn’t get to play with Billups Martin Smith Camby and a bench
