the more fun and in-depth the action is the less rpg its going to be

if you can beat a end-game boss just based on skill, dodging, blocking, and timing your attacks then it means stats, status effects, and equipment will mean less

Same way you can’t have all that detail in a movie game, but yall get mad at me for saying it :banderas:

Thats exactly why games like god of war, tsushima, and horizon, etc. aren’t RPGs, because their combat is skill based. Most people here can’t beat those games on the hardest difficulties.

people are having trouble with Clair obscur on normal :francis:

You don't play Witcher 3 for the combat. That said, I didn't care for the combat at all. Lowered it to the lowest setting and enjoyed the writing, characters, side quests, and branching narratives. Dudes really picked up W3 expecting a Souls experience or Sifu :pachaha:

Bro You think we bought the game because we want to sit through the story with combat being secondary? Lmao hell naw! We didn’t expect it to be souls or anything like that, we just wanted solid combat. If I wanted to just play for the story I would just read the book lol

Different dev priorities lead to different results.

I’m glad we finally agree on the subject

What i don’t get is how people can enjoy games like oblivion and skyrim with their janky first person combat but act like the witcher 3 is unplayable

I don't like those fukk games either. I ultimately ended up enjoying the Witcher 3. But I have to keep it a buck with it's combat being tame. It almost took me out from finishing the game a couple of times.

Skyrim and Oblivion firstly are older games— all of which does not have floaty combat and it has many ways you can approach combat. It has some weight to it and it’s not some pseudo-Arkham styled system where you just fly between targets. Why are we just comparing them to other western rpgs anyway?? There are plenty of RPGs in general that do a much better job.

Skyrim is only like two years older than witcher 3…

King, if you picked up W3 for the combat, then yeah, safe to say you didn't do your homework. It's a CDPR WRPG first and foremost and CDPR has always prioritized story in their games. Reading is a passive form of entertainment. In W3, you directly influence and participate in the narrative. The Mass Effect series improved dramatically over time, but I didn't grab the OG Mass Effect -- a Bioware game -- expecting it to rival other TPS at the time.

Witcher 4 will likely be world's better in combat, but even then, you got to go into these games with the understanding that swordplay is always coming in 3rd place behind the story & characters in a modern day CDPR game.
