Appropriate clothes was okay as long you look clean, I met people from big companies like Amway, forever living, Tyson foods, Geico, etc...

OP you gotta understand that software engineer is different. The setting is more laid back than most workplaces because you sit in front of a computer in a small room. As long as the code is debugged and the project is moving forward, people are happy. I bet you that the project manager who meets clients would be wearing a suit.

I understand the ''dressing good'' part, but you don't have to wear a suit to be good looking, and why do you think wearing a suit = success, so many people wear suit everyday but never do shyt in their life, it's a myth, but this had nothing to do with reality.

It may not be reality but it's PERCEPTION. A man wearing a nice fitted suit communicates that he's a professional and might be successful/have money. People judge you on how you look, and how you dress is a big part of that unfortunately.

And i agree, perception for some people are reality, but can we agree wearing a suit doesn't make you more intelligent or less a crook.

Most certainly. However we live in a world where people associate attractiveness, trustworthiness, and positive traits with an attractive appearance. It has to do with the "Halo Effect".

Well if you don't want to wear a suit that's your prerogative. I don't like wearing suits like that myself, but suits signify certain things, success, commitment and to some extent an air of class. Now me personally, I don't wear suits unless, I am going to conferences or a business meetings, in part because my job requires me to do a lot of physical work and I'm moving around a lot. But certain profession like business and law, a suit is just part of your uniform. If you go to court in a T-shirt and track pants, the judge will kick you out and tell you to change, and he will probably look at you funny for a while. Suits are your first impression when no body knows you from Adam. I know people like to use Mark Cuban and Steve Jobs as examples but those guys are icons who are SUPER-successful and are outliers. Even though I have my own business I am still a working Joe and it's important for me to leave as positive an impression as possible for potential clients and even returning business.

And i agree 100%, but as a human being, you should make what's in your best interest. I started this topic because people always asked me what i'm doing (i'm working home), and i say i'm an internet entrepreneur and i spend most of my day working home on my laptop, that's how i make a living, and they say i'm lucky when this had nothing to do with luck. One of my friend was a real estate broker for 21 century, but he decided to become independent for the same reason than me and he's very successful, he's always well dressed but he never wear a suit to meet his clients, he's very good looking, very charismatic and he's doing well off. All people i know that wear suit everyday are not doing good in life, but when i ask the question, they gave me the same answer, suit = success, which is more of a conditioning mindset caused by their environment than reality.

I'm a graduate in software engineering, i worked for a tech company for less than one year but i quit cause i don't like to work for people in general, but at least this company never asked me to wear a suit, most employees were in jeans and shirts, and the salary was way above average. Most people in hi tech companies don't wear suits if you don't know it, but i guess most blacks people don't know that because they don't work there.
You right.

New age tech companies are ran by young cacs or non-conformists who didn't wanna have to dress like they pops to work..or dress up at all..no judgement on looks.

Getcha nerd swag on brehs.

Mark Cuban and Steve Jobs are on the top, but there are so many successful people who are in the middle too, but i get what you're saying. I just hope one day we'll see lawyers in pants in court, maybe in 50, 100 years, who knows.

I like to dress for success. If I'm in a business environment, that means I wear a suit. If I'm in a construction zone environment, I wear safety stuff and casual wear. If I'm playing ice hockey, I'm going to wear protective equipment. If I'm just working out, I'm going to wear clothing that isn't constricting.
If you go to a fancy bar, as an example, and there is you in grubby clothing and another dude in a suit, you will be passed over more times than not. You didn't dress for success. Even if you go to Walmart, you want to wear clean and neat clothing. If you have a shirt with taco and soda stains and pants with holes in them, no good-looking woman is going to want to hook up with a dude who looks like a legit homeless man. And vice versa, are you attracted to a fine-dressed woman, or a woman who dresses and smells just like that homeless woman in the subway with the harmonica?
Thats all that needs to be said.

Thank you breh, blacks people don't understand that, most of them study in useless fields and think that's the reality of everyone, no it's not. Blacks people need to stop being ignorant and learn more about things they don't understand. Wearing a suit doesn't make you successful.

I think that's ultimately what matter's the most. Being well put together. And congrats on your business.

Yeah, I never said to look like a bum and i don't understand how people on this forum think that if you don't wear a suit then you're dressed like a bum. I'm always dressing good and appropriate when i'm doing something important, but i spent most of the time at home like right now, why should i put anything more than a shirt and a jogging pant.
