It is illegal in 10 US states to charge any surcharge: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Oklahoma and Texas.
Im going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you dont live in one of those states. But even then, the amount allowed is up to 4% of the purchase price. $0.50 is more than 4% of $5.49 so its still illegal breh
every gas station in NYC charges more for gas if you pay with a CC, that's why I always use debit.

Some gas stations give a discount for paying in cash which is not a fee for using a CC.

No, they offer a discount for using cash. In New York charging a surcharge for using a credit card is illegal.

and i had this white lady come in trying to return some shyt she bought like 6 months prior talking about she needs a refund cause her product is not working. i looked at the receipt and was like
