Depends on where you live, my parents are paying around $14,000 a year in Taxes & housing insurance, the apartments in that same area are roughly $2000 a month. If you take into account heating oil and all the maintenance work that goes into a house in the Northeast they'd probably be better off renting a place over owning their current home.
The fixes don't happen often, but when they do they hit hard as fukk, they have to pay damn near $8,000 just to get their front steps redone and since it's the northeast I doubt they last more than 5 years

yeah, own the leaking roof repair job or replacement, busted pipes and plumbing repairs, water heater, furnace and hvac upkeep , lawn maintenance, snow and ice removal, insect control expenses, wind, hurricane, flood, fire, and liability insurance premiums, municipal water bills, etc, etc.

This is why I'm looking for something inexpensive and room for a rental unit. If a rental can cover 75-80% of my mortgage payment that leaves room in my budget to pay extra. My goal is to have my home paid off in less than 7 years.
