say you live around all cacs without saying it breh :dead:
it's a ton of black firefighters (men and women) in my city. chick i went to high school with whole family firefighters going back generations
it seem like way more black people become firefighters (and postman) in my city than police for whatever reason
but yea any majority black area is going have it's secure municipal type jobs filled by brehs

Its dudes I work with who are nurses, electricians, property managers, college instructors etc on the side. Next month I work 6 days:manny: But I’m going out the country

All of the cats I work with who got 10+ Years on are pulling in 90k+ and I’m not even talking OT

i don’t wanna glamorize it, you see some terrible stuff. But other days are super chill. Going to block parties, talking to kids at school, helping folk I love it

And I don’t know about every city but I can tell you after 30+ years my Dad retired pretty early with a great pension. He’s early 60’s and been retired for like almost 7 or 8 years and is at millionaire status. Now it may be just over a million but home paid for, all cars paid for. Bills literally less $500 a month. And has no debt. But he also doesn’t have a lot of kids and stuff so he was able to invest and keep his finances and credit in order. Being a fireman is lucrative if you play your cards right.

Dudes retiring with 4500 a month pension at 52/53. Imagine making that much to sit at home the rest of your life

Exactly. And because they work limited days per month those unsed vacation and holiday payout checks at retirement are often six figures as well. Like up to $100k+ that has to be paid out within like 30 to 60 days. Depending on how their retirement is set up they are retiring that early and not even starting pension pay for a couple of years. They’re still getting paid off regular payroll before they start into their true pension. But that may vary depending on city setups.

What's that about? :patrice:
Fire department used to be up there with the police in terms of being racist AF. That being said a guy who went to my high school, my former supervisor at TJ Maxx and a lesbian my cousin knows are firefighters

My observations in NYC is nikkas will take the test but won't spend the necessary resources to STUDY for said test. Whether that be money for tutoring or time just spent opening a book and studying. FDNY even has a Vulcan Society of black firefighters that hands out a study guides.

https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/fdny/downloads/pdf/about/fdny-demographics-12-16-2020.pdf

You can see how many took the test vs how many got through to the academy based on scores.
Speaking of NYC Brownsville Ka, a rapper, is a fire captain.

Been working for Atlanta Fire for 3 years now and from the Chief on down, the department is majority black but the department is diverse as any place I ever worked. My grandfather was a firefighter for Atlanta so just like white folks have a culture of family in the field, that happens here in Atlanta. We are hiring btw

My crew is all black and folks on the job like to call that the “soul patrol”

There’s definitely a culture in the fire service that wouldn’t allow a black man to comfortably work in a lot departments around the country especially in smaller cities and counties.

The job itself seems easy... until the craziest scenario happens and it’s on you to figure it out and do your job. It can become a man’s man job real quick because of what can happen while doing it. It’s why recruit school is so harsh.
What is that culture? I feel like the military and police share a similar culture as well.

Know a guy who had so much sick time stacked up he didn’t come to work for close to 2.5 years til he retired. Then he worked his last month with all his friends at the firehouse he started at for sentimental purposes

It’s a brotherhood. You gotta think, you sleep, shower, eat, work with dudes for 24/48 hours straight so naturally you’ll get close to them. Everyone pitches in around the station, its like a big family.

It’s a little tough your first year as a rookie cuz they’re trying to feel you out to see if you’re cut fit the job but gradually they open up to you
