The thing is, most people will buy what they CAN afford, even if it effects them in the long road. A good advice I heard was "If you can't buy it twice, don't buy it at all".
However, the problem with this meme is that it's vague and biased. People aren't poor because they keep buying expensive shyt, people are poor either because of low income, None or useless degrees, environmental factors, and have children too soon. People are quick to state out "personal responsibility", but just ignore people do have different circumstances.

Nah he's 100% right. That meme is just pointing out the spending habits and mindset of the rich/poor. The poor place value in the material because its is not easily obtainable to them and allows them to impress other poor/middle-class people. Meanwhile, the rich dont care because they dont place the same value in it. A Gucci belt is not as valuable to a rich person than it is to a poor person.
