Above the fray.
I was watching a friend's child recently and the kid is in 5th grade but struggling to do math word problems, doesn't know multiplication or division and having problems with subtraction. Her mom is a single mother and works a lot but the kid's education is slipping because she isn't getting help she needs. No one checks her homework and the teacher doesn't really explain the concepts. She has a cellphone and uses youtube, so I told her to use it to learn these math concepts. I really hopes she uses it to learn.

There are many kids struggling with their academics because they aren't being monitored. I was one that had a hard time with high school math but I did just enough to pass. Looking back that is highly unacceptable and my mom should've been on my case instead of trusting me to do well. I needed more supervision to stay on top of my studies. It would've made a huge difference in my performance.

From my experience I learned what I should do with my own kids and I see how much of a positive difference it makes. I always check my kid's homework and help when needed. He's pretty good at math and an avid reader.

Don't let your kid slip through the cracks, no matter what is going on in your life!

Breh... if you’re not reading to your kid nightly before they can talk, chances are an L is imminent. A lot of parents think it’s the teacher’s job to do everything.
True indeed breh. AA kids start kindergarten with a 30,000 word deficit and this deficit can be made up by simply reading to your child during their formative years.

Public schools in general worldwide is straight bottom level trash, though you may have luck at an academy/charter school.

So. Cal
The reason you need two people in the house is so one can teach the child while the other works
I agree that's the ideal situation. But being raised by a single parent in its self doesn't promise illiteracy.

1. You need two adults in the house.

2. American education system is a joke,

What is a joke about the education system?
I work my ass off teaching kids all day but as soon as they go home they hop on fortnite or watch some dumb ass MKSLATT YouTube video all day till they go to bed.

The next day all they talk about are video games and shyt. Parents don’t care, in turn the kids don’t care anymore.

The only correct answer I’ve seen in this thread

Lmao
I work at a public school in the mornings and day and I work at a charter school in the evening with their after school program.

The kids are charter schools aren’t even as smart as my public school kids. Charter schools are overrated. 1+1=2 at a public and charter school. We teach the same shyt at both schools. Literally nothing is different in what is being taught at a public school vs a charter or private school.

The only difference is the type of kids who attend private schools are probably more serious about their work & their parents are involved in their lives.

I’d rather work at a public over a charter or private 100% of the time. If you stay on your kids, discipline them, keep up with their work & start reading and stuff early with them then they will be successful at a public school like they would a private one.

Aren't the standards different in public versus charter and private?

Not curriculum standards, but isn't in easier to boot disruptive/slow children from the latter?

I attended public schools, but from 1st grade on I was fast tracked in top group, G&T, and magnets. Because of that, I think I got the maximum out of the public school system. Each year my class probably covered and learned 98% of the material, because classroom distractions were minimized .
Majority of kids attending public school aren't as fortunate.

It felt like I wrote the OP...
What he is saying is true...
My niece is in that same grade and has the same problems..
She is constantly on YouTube tho...
Her mother gives no fuc until the grades comes in. Then she wants to yell...
If I have kids... they will be home schooled by their mother
Why can’t you home school them?

Literally, if education stops mattering once kids get home, it's a wrap. Full stop. Extrapolate that out to single parent households and the question solves itself. I have no clue why this is so hard to understand.
All there is to it.

brehs can keep deflecting to the school system or whatever. the reality is that those who want their children to prosper regardless still make a way. ain't no excuses that you can give to knowingly raise a kid you know you have failed already.
