He momentarily lost possession after his first foot hit though. No they ruled it incomplete because he didn't make a running move. He had possession.

Both plays are simple to explain. When you make a catch and falling to the ground, you have to come up with the football in your possession.
.
this was ruled an incomplete pass

then the freeman play was ruled no td

This is a serious problem with the league right now. no one can straight up tell you whats a catch and whats not a catch which is one of the basic building blocks of football. shyts really just some subjective nonsense at this point that cheapens the game
collins caught that game ending brady interception in the air with both hands on it with a firm grip fell on his back while tucking it and it was called not a interception. How can you catch a ball mid air and fall on your back and it not be a considered caught? That same play on offense is considered a catch.![]()
That wouldn't be a catch even if an offensive player did it. Again, it's falling to the ground rules. When you catch and fall to the ground you have to control the ball to the ground and come up with the ball. As he fell with the ball pinned to his side, it hit the ground and popped out.

I understand why the falling to the ground rule is the way it is. It's to remove the subjectivity and so far I haven't seen the get it wrong. Calvin Johnson, to Dez Bryant, to the two plays @mozichrome just posted and the Landon Collins one you're talking about. They all were ruled incomplete. There's no subjectivity to it.he had control, he was trying to tuck it off of instinct. no one will ever question a dude with two hands on a ball in mid air holding it away from his body like that, if he had enough control to tuck it then he had control point blank period. NFL has no clue what its doing as far as what a catch is.
no cuz if you dive for the pile on you can lose the ball and its still a TD......
Diving for the pile on in what instance? Did they already complete a catch and were just running and diving? Once you break the plane the plays over unless they were falling during a catch then they have to maintain possession through the ground and come up with the ball. That's what's going on in that Bengals and Falcons play in those gifs as well as Dez Bryant last playoffs and they were all ruled incomplete.
Nobody gave a fukk until teams OTHER than the Lions started getting hosed either.its funny how this has only become an isssue the past 4-5 years.
I never remember it being discussed much before that Calvin Jonson play in Tampa

No it's not. Some of you guys just don't know the rules.
The Golden Tate TD is the only one in they got wrong, that should've been a pick.
