I was a senior in high school. The TVs came on, and we were just relieved that the teachers were so concerned, and we weren’t doing work. Even my math teacher asked if it was okay if we watched the TV. We didn’t realize how serious it was.

My stepdad worked up North, and they let them out early, and the turnpike and parkway were backed up for hours.

As I got older, I met people who could see the smoke from the towers from their homes in the northern part of the county I live in.
