I think what's causing this issue is that society lied to them.

Imagine everyone is telling you, "You just need to be funny and confident and you can get the girl of your dreams!"

Then here comes some guy who neither of those qualities and your dream girl throws herself at him just because of his looks.

And then you get told to lower your standards which implies that looks matter even though society told you they DON'T.

Combine that with a little mental illness sprinkled in and this is what you get.

If you want to fix the "incel" problem, we need to start being HONEST about dating and what women actually want.

Yup.

Disney / all that programming lied to boys & girls.

Told boys to just “be yourself” & be nice, looks don’t matter! As long as long as you’re a nice person. Throw your jacket on the floor so she doesn’t step on puddles.

:mjlol:

  • Told the girls to wait, they are pretty, they can have whatever they want,
  • Your Disney “prince” will come & everyone will look up to him = High value / Rich
  • He will have a horse & carriage = Nice car

Half of them look like this

But they want a supermodel :dead:

I have a theory that TV Sitcoms with average / fat husbands and attractive wives have something to do with this

"Society" isn't telling men "be funny and confident and you can get the girl of your dreams" though :mjlol:
That's bad romantic comedy movies and PUAs.

Normal people seem to be handling the vagaries of dating well, its just extra-sensitive men that can't pick up on social cues with no experience that seem to have this problem :dwillhuh:

the most famous example of all:

What exactly was the purpose of this couple archetype? I used to interpret it as being funny/charismatic goes a long way. Which in some cases is true; the way you make a woman feel is essential to her attraction to you. Yet, you still need to be visually appealing

Yes. Also in every one of these episodes, the husband meets the “EX” and the EX is usually the guy she REALLY likes or lust over.

“Charismatic & funny goes a long way for the relationship type of guy. The lust guy doesn’t have to be all that.

I always thought the archetype was Hollywood selling a dream to average looking men

It's funny how in these sitcoms that this average looking guy has a chance to cheat on his attractive wife with another attractive woman :russ:
