Wow... The original point of the thread got lost.

People are too caught up in the fact that Jay is a better rapper. Yes this is true, no one will argue that, but certain artist grow bigger than the genre they were conceived in. They grasp ideas and influences from other forms of music and mesh their genre.

It's like arguing if Luther Vandross is a better ARTIST than Prince. Yeah Luther can sing better and he has classics for days, but no one will say he was better ARTISTICALLY than Prince.

Luther owned R&B, Prince wasn't just tied to the R&B world. Artistically he was all over the place, and did everything well with critical acclaim. Same with Ye. Let's see Jay do something like "808's", it's out of his realm. And miss me with all that "808's sucked" bs.

And not for nothing, look at the artistic talent that Kanye has brought fourth; Cudi, John Legend, Eric Hudson. All well respected for their art form in their genres. And don't say Jay brought Kanye fourth, because Dame Dash saw the talent.

Common's "Be", best believe Kanye played an important creative role with this album; and not just by producing.

Whats wrong with you breh?:what:

You coming off wild emotional right now. Now all of a sudden im a Jay-z "hater" (Whateva the fukk that means :what: )

When jus yesterday I stated that Jay-z is the most balanced and consistent MC of all time :dwillhuh:

http://www.the-coli.com/booth/58912-who-most-balanced-m-c-all-time-3.html#post2173239

So lemme guess, im a Pac and Nas hater too huh? :comeon:

Just because I say something that doesnt agree with what you saying doesnt mean im fukking hating. You kids on this site are wild childish sometimes.

Thats the problem with this generation. Its always "Hate" this or "You jealous" that.

No DUMB MOTHAfukkA ITS CALLED HAVING A OPINION :comeon:

nikkas discredited the mass amount of daps I got in one post. Then started talking bout 1-stars in another, talk about grasping for straws :heh:

You just said a whole bunch of nothing that doesn't apply to me. No one was emotional, but if you've ever seen me post, when people say shyt I think is stupid, I stop replying or else we end up in long drawn out discussion.

It's very simple, if we follow your logic then Kanye is the best hip hop artist ever. It's that simple. I was actually giving you the benefit of the doubt of thinking that you were intelligent enough to understand what I was doing.

I'll say ONE LAST TIME SLOW FOR YOU. If we follow the categories you laid out to define what an "artist" is, then there is no other artist in Hip Hop history that will rank higher than Kanye. Then you post up that lame quote from yourself yesterday as some sort of proof, stop it. :shaq:

"Jay doesn't have a top 5" "Have you ever even heard those albums?" "Jay was never an innovator." "Kanye has eclipsed camel." Etc., etc. It's transparent. Even if there is some truth in them.

I can say I like someone too and then try to discredit their work as well. Which is what you did.

Rolling Stone top albums of the 2000s:

4. Jay-Z - The Blueprint
10. Kanye West - College Dropout
14. Jay-Z - The Black Album
40. Late Registration

Complex

1. Jay-Z - The Blueprint

Pitchfork

4. Jay-Z - The Blueprint
17. Kanye - Late Registration.

etc., etc.,

The point is simple, search far and wide and you will be hard pressed to find anyone walking around saying that Kanye's albums are a cut above Jay's you discredited yourself when you were like :mitt: when I implied those Jay albums were better. I don't even think you meant it, and it's your opinion but you acted like everyone should follow your rubric. That's why I said it wasn't worth replying to you. You can't argue with someone doing that. Following your rubric Kanye WAS always a better artist than Jay, there was nothing to eclipse.

Either this is a horrible comparison by you are u need to admit the original point of the thread wuz not lost, but basically pointless to have Jays name involved in it....all the names listed in the op Jay is either more highly regarded than,or on par with Kanye isn't held in the same regard as most of that list.

You could say Prince is more of a artist than Michael Jackson too based off the fact he plays a bunch of different instruments and has helped produce other acts....end of the day that's Michael Jackson though:manny:...who the hell says Prince has surpassed Michael Jackson:childplease:....I'm talkin bout the real world by the way not coli-posters lookin to do numbers by goin against popular opinion:childplease:

Not sayin threadstarter did that,I'm speakin of threads sayin Prince is greater than MJ that I've seen on here:snoop:...Jay is MJ nikkas

And I think rnb comparisons suck by the way cuz that's rnb and this is hiphop, two completly different things...so I think its crazy to compare Luther and Prince but if we must use a rnb comparison let's go for accuracy....He's not JAys peer yet at all...Luther and Prince are peers,MJ and Prince are peers...Kany ain't passed Sigel yet in my book,he still the lil homie for now.

Man getting daps for the dumb ass posts you make don't mean shyt. I can confirm that I would get daps for every single one of the dumb ass Ross troll threads I made. Every single one of them. No matter how stupid and thoughtless your opinion is, there is always one person that was either thinking the same thing and just didn't want to say it or peeped what you were doing and attempted to give the illusion that what you are saying is credible to make the troll thread more authentic. I was literally just running around saying Ross is a legend, he surpassed Biggie, he has the GOAT catalog and nikkas dapped it:rudy:

As far as Kanye being a better artist. No. We just saw what happened when they came together on WTT and Jay outshines him. Period. MBDTF absolutely crushed BP3 tho. I'm not in favor of saying rappers =/= artists or attempting to separate them in an attempt to put one over the other. The only thing that ever matters when you rank artists, musicians, rappers or whatever is the music they make and the albums they put together. Ye has yet to make more quality music overall then Hov so I wont put him over him. He has the potential to down the road and in all likely hood I expect it to happen

At this point he's definitely better (as an artist). He's WAY more consistent quality wise (every Ye album is at least 4/5). It's worth pointing out that he's a perfectionist whereas Jay lets filler tracks ruin otherwise classic joints (Vol 3 in my opinion).

And back on topic, kanye been a better arists than jay as soon as he dropped his first album. Always had depth to him, from his fashion, to his musical influences, to his personality, to his tragic accident, etc.

Jay Z is overall one of the best to do it if you go by the numbers alone. But the nikka is a camel. When he ain't cocky as fukk he's boring usually. The the nikka got the personality of brown paper bag with no beer inside it. He can't dress, his artistic interests are all obvious pompous bullshyt (warhol.. basquiat nikka, really? :stopitslime: coldplay :dead:), and the whiny nikka constantly begs for love after nas knocked a patch out his ass. "my achilles heel is love, i could never get enough of it" :deadrose:

I'll give him credit from 96-03. After that the nikka is Jordan on the Wizards status. Swag surfin with bad knees on another nikkas wave for a DECADE

shyt i think i done just got mad :ohhh:

Guess we gon act like Bluprint never came out,Vol 2 never happened......and :whoa: I didn't say anything about u couldn't be a real nikka and like Kanye.....but let's be honest a large portion of Kanyes fans is on that "other side"...what's reffered to as I guess the hipster side who gravitate to everything "different",who wanna hear more musical albums where they favorite artist experiment and incorporate other "types" of music into hiphop:wtb:

You know what fanbase I'm talkin about,Now let's talk about hiphop fans who don't give a damn about that shyt....that's all cute and everything but nikkas I know that listen to hiphop don't give a damn...better rapper, better hooks, better catalogue, more classic songs that's all Jay-Z....if u can't see that then u have an appreciation for music majority of most hiphop fans could care less about.

Your in the minority I'm sorry....nobody gave a damn if Jay wuz rappin on overly produced songs with orchestras with just the right dash of techno and a hint of a newborn babys cries hidden just beneath the baseline:ohlawd::rudy:...Jay didn't need "visuals" that's supposed to have sum deep meaning behind them or be groundbreaking....nobody cared about that shyt:damn:...maybe sum of these new nikkas is impressed by that shyt but nobody really cared or cares:manny:....this hipster takeover is pollutin the game and I been sayin it for a minute now, this souless that's out now and y'all wonder why.

Give Jay a classic yet simple beat, hell supply u with a hook, quotable after quotable and give u a video at a party,in the hood or on a boat....no extra shyt needed.

Musically the bells and whistles just don't make u or ur catalogue better than sumbody who puts out better albums, maybe the original meaning of this thread got lost....if u wanna consider Ye a better artist becuz of the attention to detail he puts into his music that's fine.....but better music to me is better music and Jay does that better than Kanye:manny:

These emo kids don't get it cause they are the YouTube generation....

Bottom line it's about who can step in the booth and pit that fire.....that's why as an mc you never see Kanye in anyone's top five...

He ain't even a top ten mc.....

I don't want to turn this into a bash Kanye thread because I do like his music but these fukking stupid emo kids wanna come and redefine what an mc is

Having a cool concept for a song doesn't make you a good mc......the words you spit do.....

aint no fukkin rapper "bigger than hiphop". if you think so your a fakkit that feels hiphop is less than other music genres.they might have switched lanes to take you suckas money and (REAL HipHop heads roast them for that bullshyt) but they are still HipHop artist.so if you claim to love HipHop but give props to kanye for that 808 album your a sucka and a fakkit for thinking it was "artistic".

Lol. People are arguing if Kanye is a better ARTIST than Jay... Lmao. This shouldn't be an argument. That pretty much goes without saying.

Kanye is more than a rapper. He shouldn't be compared to rappers, he's bigger than hip hop.

Kanye peaked at Graduation breh

The fact that Kanye does beats, has better live performances and directs videos (very well) makes him a better artist than Jay.....

In the same vein that makes RZA a better artist than Rakim...

When I first saw this thread I felt it was stupid topic because OP was stating the obvious...

But now I see people passionately trying to argue against what should be a simple concept to digest...

:snoop:

Jay-Z is a better recording artist... Kanye is a better overall artist...

There is no logical disagreement....

Ye blows him away. Albums, production, musically. Ye has him beat. 5 albums in and he has yet to miss, with each one changing it up, pushing himself and rap forward each time. Its not even fair to compare jay. Jay will forever be the better rapper, kanye will never top that. Everyone but the squares on the coi who hate whatever is popular realize this. MBDTF and Late Registration alone should be enough for people to realized this. The production, the littlest details, the perfectly placed guest spots. Everything comes down to kanye and he is perfect at it.

Kanyes 5 albums are also better than any 5 jayz albums when compared

And he us the most critically acclaimed rap artist of all time :yeshrug:
