Neither of those two statements are true. His discog is very good, but doesn't stand toe to toe with the other greats. That's his weakness imo, because it obviously isn't his rap skill that can be criticised. He's been rapping amazingly for over 20 years now.

That's the issue I have. And the fact that Illmatic is automatically considered THE GOAT album when there are so many on its level, it shouldn't be put on a pedestal beyond some of the other albums that are equally deserving.

The Source Awards were less reputable at that point in time. Stillmatic isn't 5 mics and you know it. If captain cross dresser released a much desired solo album at that time called 'Discovering My Sexuality' or something, it would have got 5 mics before it was even released. So yeah, Nas has 2 classics. That's it. His discog is real easy to assess in that regard. Doesn't mean Stillmatic isn't great though.

I say unreasonable because his discog doesn't stack up to Scarface, Ghostface, Common etc. Those are GOAT rappers and they have a discog to match. At least if you aren't gonna be consistent, make sure your top half of work is full of classic material, and Nas is just under that threshold imo. Like Jay is on that same level of inconsistency especially towards the latter stages of his career, but he has 3 classics.

But I've said this countless times to people. If Nas is your GOAT, I can't be mad because for most peoples' criteria, he fits the bill and that's cool. This isn't Layzie Bone or some random bum we're talking about. But for me, nope.

Those are Common's only 'bad' albums, and Electric Circus ain't bad, just different. UMC is straight trash status though I'll admit. Common has 3 classics tho...so he doesn't even need the consistency factor yet he still has it by and large.

Yep Scarface is the example of the model of consistency. 2 classics but the rest is so damn good. He doesn't know how to release wack material, especially when he's in control not the record label with that weird compilation shyt.

They are very different albums. Blueprint had the better production and was more consistent.
