I thought Wu-Tang was worth like a billion dollars.

The brand itself is probably worth somewhere between 50-100M. It took a hit, but it's been since built back up. RZA only invests into things he's interested in. And Divine & Power no longer attach the W to any and everything. No more videogames, comics, rims, coffee tables etc...but they still get all of their endorsements and brand collaborations. So while the brand is worth let's say 100M, that's only RZA, Divine & Power...not the others no longer under it.

They didn't have to leave after the 5-year plan. They all left at different times, because at some point, they were bigger than the group, and hated kicking back that 20% or whatever it was, or their earnings to the W. This allowed for everyone to eat, even when they weren't poppin, and them to eat off the W as well. By getting from under that W, they no longer have to pay dues...however, they also don't get paid if any other member or the brand itself makes money. That was short sighted on their part.

As for the CIlvaringz ish, they ALL knew what they contributing to. Mef even knows what songs he's on, and has them. They just got mad at the media running with the "Wu-Tang album" not understanding that Wu-Tang means anything Wu-Affiliated, while Clan means the actual group. They got pissed with the questions always being asked. And the single copy of the album was the only thing that was new to them. It was still a Wu-compilation presented by Cilvaringz. The fans that would've paid exuberant amounts of money for it ALL knew what it was. Cilvaringz wouldn't stop talking about it for years...the entire time he was working on it.

Facts. Wu-Tang seems like the default hip hop choice for white people who don't really know shyt about hip hop but want to front like they do just to seem edgy or sumn,. When I was in Berlin I seen at least 5 people in the course of that weekend wearing Wu-Tang shirts, shyt lowkey disgusted me, lol.

Years ago, when a better tomorrow came out. I worked with this white dude who claimed to be a HUGE Wu tang fan. I asked him what he thought about the new album. He didn’t know wtf I was talking about. Come to find out, this fool only knew 36 chambers. Didn’t know about Cuban linx, liquid swords, wu tang forever, nothing SMH

They were signed to Wu-Tang productions. Then the production company would find label deals and get a cut.

RZA released all they from their individual contracts and lost millions. He only kept the group signed to the production company.

He went to Hollywood and made millions again in the movies. Divine made smart investments so there is some jealousy towards the Diggs brothers.

U-God is a bitter bozo

RZA is a damn saint for putting up with a lot of them nikkas to be honest.
At the end of the day the Diggs Brothers started all the business shyt and its their shyt. The other dudes left the W. RZA was doing all the production and all they had to do was show up with a few verses. Seems like Power and Devine was about their business and if those 3 are "paid paid" today, its because they handled business correctly.

Think this is half right. It's the default choice for white people who love hip hop. Like every white person I ever met who listens to a lot of rap loves Wu. I got a theory that it's related to the mythology, the kung fu and comic book style characters and alter egos made them more accessible or relatable somehow because the actual music is as black and as street as it gets. But I never met a casual of any race who listens to them.
I consider Wu Tang avant-garde street rap music

its why it pulls people from all walks of life

I just hope mathematics is well taken care of. He created one of the most iconic logos ever. I know they paid him to create it but damn that logo alone has made so much money.

Mathematics did a recent interview and he seems happy and good. I think he only got paid $500 for creating the logo but he’s also been a DJ for GZA and various members of the clan since the beginning AND he’s a producer who learned directly from RZA and he produced The Saga Continues album. He’s also a consultant on The Wu-Tang television series and did all the art for the second season.

So i’m quite SURE he’s good

He also gets a percentage on royalties for the logo...albeit small percentage, but still something. I think he's good. He's also music arranger for the show. Basically, the RZA/Meth made sure everyone got paid off this show.

I'm not saying it wasn't a good financial decision. In this day and age, very few artists sell lots of records. So you are right that they probably got more money out of the auction than otherwise.

I'm just saying that I thought it would go for a higher price. Remember, rich people who don't know what to spend their money on will spend tens, hundreds of millions of dollars on art and other collectors items. I thought the Wu would have enough hardcore super rich fans that would bid against each other that the final selling price would be more like $20 million. I think if a celebrated rock band came up with a similar concept, that's around how much they would be able to sell the CD for.
Lol, rich people don’t buy art because they don’t know what to spend their money on. That’s just something poor people think. They buy artwork to store value and avoid taxes. You don’t get rich by not knowing what to do with your money.

wasnt there a Wu Tang documentary last year?

itll kind of show how outside of RZA a lot of them dudes are kind of dumb (or they have inflated egos).

Thye didnt like RZA and his brother making moves/money for them...so they all did their own thing.

Like you said..they would have been better off moving together

Outside of RZA and GZA, the rest of them was some dusty crackhead nikkas that would've stayed on the block forever

RZA put up a million dollar for u gods album outta his own pocket when no one believed u god to sell many albums lol

u god be talking cause he can.
I read U God’s book and his ego is out of control lol. He said he deserves the credit for Raekwon’s career. The way U God talks about it, he should probably be the most successful in the Wu but bad luck kept that from happening.
