Over the last month the Spurs are shooting .514 from the floor.
Don't misunderstand. I'm rooting for our team. But there is no chance in hell that shooting is sustainable.
This is like a baseball player hitting .400 for a month and people acting like he won't hit closer to his .270 avg the rest of the way.
So when the regression happens, understand that the holes we need to fix are going to be much more apparent than they are right now.
Probably not. What about them being one of the best defensive teams in the league during this stretch as well? Is that a fluke too?
Probably not.
Defense tends to be a lot more steady than offense. And given the Spurs' defensive reputation over Pop's 20 years I am inclined to believe that is real.
You posted in another thread a tweet that despite running a midrange offense, the Spurs are playing at an elite level offensively.
It seems counterintuitive. We will see how long it lasts. And if we can remain elite playing that way, I will admit i was wrong to question that strategy.
But for now I do believe the long 2s are bad shots.
I don't think Pop is being "left behind"Given Pop's reputation don't you also think its foolish to think he is being left behind by other coaches considering their play? wouldn't you agree this thread was made very prematurely? How is it counterintuitive if they're an elite shooting team from the 3 even though they're not taking as many as you like. Imo, there is no such thing as a bad shot when its wide open. I like the fact that we have a versatile team that can beat you at all three levels, at the rim, midrange and at the 3.
Bro just shut the fukk upI don't think Pop is being "left behind"
I think that thread title was a bit click bait-y.
San Antonio has generally shot efficiently from 3 for a long time. I just think that we should shoot a few more of them per game.
If the way we are going to play is: LMA and Demar won't shoot 3s because that's not their forte and we don't want to ask them to do it....and that 3pt shooting will be picked up by the bench, then I think we are playing a bit of a dangerous game. Because you're trying to win by relying an awful lot on elite defense and having your 6th, 7th, 8th guys off the bench over perform.
It may be good now. But when you play those elite teams in the playoffs (if we get there) you are banking on winning games 105-101 with the hope that maybe you'll score 110-115 with a hot night.
I suppose elite defense beats elite offense. SAS have proven that for a long time. I'm just concerned that in this 3 pt shooting era...I'm afraid we may need more (reliable) offensive power than in the past.
