KD did his thing, but he didn’t carry the team by himself. I don’t think pop handicapped the team as much as ppl thought he did. Hell, part of coaching is letting the players play to their strengths. This isn’t a situation where they won inspite of coaching. France is a legitimately good team. USA was just better and Pop recognized each player’s strengths and comfortability.

Let's not pretend like they didn't win simply because of KD and an overwhelming talent advantage.

Dame was reportedly playing through an injury and was point-shaving all throughout the tournament, yet that didn't stop Pop from playing him the third-most minutes on the squad. Pop refused to combat size with size when Team USA struggled to combat opposition frontcourts. Pop overplayed guard lineups when teams kept exposing them on matchups.

Every single coach in the NBA would've won gold with this squad. They would've won even if they didn't have a coach.

Not sure why people are trying to use this as a “gotcha” moment against Gil. Y’all are sucking pops dikk for barely winning games with an entire roster full of all stars. Y’all are acting like the United States were underdogs, we were SUPPOSED TO WIN regardless of who the coach was.:heh:

Popovich needs to leave Team USA on a high note. Won the gold medal and that's enough. He was getting exposed with questionable lineups. There is no time, thanks to FIBA, to rehearse all these schemes and run his system plays.
