it would actually be best for spurs to tank and get like a chet holmgren, jalen hardy
Popovich coaching the Spurs in the year 2050Hope Pop never retires and this is the Spurs for the next 30 years
it would actually be best for spurs to tank and get like a chet holmgren, jalen hardy
I'm on the tank for Chet train
Its crazy how Derozsn looked in Tor and in Chi vs San Antoni.. id never want to play under Pop. Unless your a big man your numbers will look like shyt.
Derozan is an MVP candidate with the Bulls and the 83rd ranked player with the Spurs.
This is irrefutable proof that pop hasn't been left behind or that he ignored the 3 ball. He just wasnt comfortable with the personnel taking them. Curtains.
Nope. He doesnt need to catch up, he obviously recognizes the importance of the 3, but that doesn't mean he will instruct players that cant shoot them to shoot them. That's what you fail to realize. You clearly lack the ability to read between the line. Poppovich does not view DeRozan as a good enough shooter to take 3's at the moment.
Popovich explains why he held out DeMar DeRozan for final play
Even back in January he benched him when the team needed a 3.
Just take your L bruh, Pop is a top 5 coach in any sport, you're just a cowardly forum poster with a green light.
DeRozan is looking the best he has in years, and is leading the Bulls to wins.Yeah, well the fact that they aren't good at them is probably a big enough reason for them not to be taking them. I mean its really common fukking sense you would think. Secondly, a 7th seed that just took a 2 seed to 7 games didnt get left behind. Only an idiot would think otherwise. Such as yourself.
keep trying to sell us on those "all stars"
the entire basketball world has seen they ain't shyt... demoted will never be an all star again in life... lucky he came out the east.. that's over now
LA was a reserve in 2018 and wouldn't be there if someone else wasn't hurt... he last made it in 2016 before that... in other words... another nikka that will never make another all star again unless he goes east
these dudes are not it... period.. NOBODY from former players to nikkas on the coli is buying that brand
What did you say about DeRozan never looking like an All-Star again? What did you say about DeRozan shouldn't be shooting threes?nikka saying "shoot more 3's"
WHO?????
look at the roster... look at who takes the 3's and how many... please inform us, who else should be getting schemed to take MORE 3's...
Please tell us all, what EXACTLY, should Pop do, to change things around. And don't say trade or FA cause that's our answer, that you seem to think is wrong. So make sure to only use the current roster of non injured players
we'll wait
Wait so you want derozan, gay and aldridge to shoot more 3s
That's a recipe for disaster
Their team's two main stars are Derozan and Lamarcus, probably the only 2 mid-range specialists left in the game.
Like other people said, Spurs helped invent this new era, and Pop just took a washed Spurs team to the playoffs, plus his wife died.
Give the man a break:popovich:
Aint gonna win shyt with derozan and lma being your team leaders
cause if they had actual good players who shoot 3's... they'd not be shooting those shots
you acting like Pop is telling Klay, Steph and KD to shoot 2's.. nikka you want LMA out there hitting 3's?? How about DeChoking?
Our starters made 4 out of 8 three pointers last night.
Our bench made 8 of 11.
That's tremendous efficiency.
But we can't shoot like that every night.
Gay, Aldridge and DeRozan combined to take 2 three pointers all night. I'm sorry. In this era that isn't good.
Great win. But we still need to stretch the floor.
Ive always thought that DeRozan would have to shoot more threes as a Spur. But Pop doesn’t want to box him into doing something when he excels at something else which is what he did with Aldridge initially.
Bradley Beal would fit so much better with the Spurs.
No need to refute anything. Pop took an undermanned team in the west to the playoffs and LeBron wasn't even close. Denver's talent base dwarfs San Antonio's and it still came down to the final minutes of a game seven where Derozan shot 7-21 and Aldridge 6-16. Pop did a masterful job this season.
His biggest mistake this season was being stubborn and refusing to deal with the Lakers. Probably woulda been a higher seed and won a round with Ingram, Kuzma and Hart rather than Derozan.
BEfore the series nikkas was saying Spurs would win cuz of experience and coaching...Now that they lost they trying to flip it as a 7 seed taking a 2 seed to 7 games is an accomplishment
I heard that DeRozan was a different player with the Spurs and would evolve under Pop.
NOOOOOOPE !
Except he's just said that he's going to "instruct" LMA and DeRozan to shoot more 3s next season. There was NOTHING stopping him from instructing them to shoot them this season: DeRozan was shooting them in Toronto, LMA was training all last summer on his 3-pt shot. The ENTIRE league was shooting them this season, so why didn't Pop? He was CLEARLY left behind this season. And now he acknowledges he and the Spurs have to adapt.
I was right, and TheColi was wrong.

I saw Aldridge make a couple 3s the other night
DeRozan still refusing to put them up
He just doesn’t fit that system in San Antonio. He fit well in Toronto system up until his departure. Maybe it’s pops system.
But this thread is about the Spurs not taking many threes, with DeRozan not taking any.
I think analytics agree with you about taking the high percentage shot. The problem, as it’s been explained thousands of times, is that a long two is a low percentage shot versus a three. It’s not hard to understand why that is.
DeRozan has taken 122 shots from 16 feet to three point line this year. Kawhi has only taken 79. Why is DeRozan shooting there when he is only a 42% shooter from there? Kawhi actually shoots near 50% from there but he steps back and gets more points shooting threes.
Even Kawhi taking 5-6 three pointers a game shows that. If you have a midrange game that gets you good shots always, whats the problem?
DeRozan is now shooting 41% from behind the arc after this game, and just had back-to-back 30-point games. Now, needless to say, he won't keep up that percentage, but it just goes to show that he is capable of shooting threes, and should've been shooting them in San Antonio.
It's looking like he was being held back by the Spurs/Pop, and Pop was handbraking the offense not getting him or allowing him to shoot these shots, to open up his own game and space the floor for the rest of the team.

And that's still more efficient than what he shot on long twos. Go figure. He's a career 28% shooter from three. Let's give it more than seven games.
Fun fact: he was shooting 30% coming into this contest.
