I see why people do it but I would never do it.

thing is people always be like well so and so with no legs or is blind has it worse than you and he's still living his life/ making something of it

so its like you gotta suck it up even though you feel like:trash: but because you're not cripple or orphaned and have a home your with privilege... people make you feel like you should be exempt from unhappiness.

I think many people want to hit the reset button on life or at least go back to a certain checkpoint to redo things

perhaps you never lived up to your expectations and have a series of obstacles that prevent you from reaching your goals

or have no desire to be around anybody because most relationships you have with people burn out and people aren't reaching out to you like you are to them.

I think when we hit a certain age we go through an existential crisis and realise we ain't shyt especially us narcissists who think the world revolves around us because we view everything from a first person perspective and we think everything devastating or fantastic that happened to us was some special unique thing...

it's groundhog day for many people.... so whilst there's others going through excruciating chronic physical pain to which they would desire euthanasia others are trapped in a mundane routine that seems excruciating...

mental health is complicated i'm not a shrink and even shrinks don't have the cure since its a non-fits-all treatment

It’s tempting, Especially when life is shyt and there’s no easy escape. Like others have said, I would’ve offed myself long ago if it didn’t hurt my fam. I’m trying to take it day by day.

Just take it easy y’all. Things can change for the better

I would never do it, but life is hard and can get to a point where you dont see a way out and just removing yourself from life seems like it will give you relief.

More and more black people are committing suicide because the internet has shown us how bleak our situation is. Even back in jim crow we could say "we just have to make it north and get a good job and live a good life" they didnt have the info to know the north was just as racist and blacks lived in decrepit slums but false hope is powerful. Today we know we have nowhere to run or hide.

The desire to end ones existence comes from a deep pain that just wont go away. It's like having a rotting tooth in your mouth that nobody can see. Some days it doesnt hurt so much, but other days its unbearable and feels like someone is trying to shove an arrowhead through your jaw. The fact that nobody can see it or treat it, makes it worse.

This is what happens with our emotions. We feel an overwhelming pain, an overwhelming anxiety and exhaustion and we just get to the point where we want to check out entirely. It doesnt even matter who you are. Privileged people still commit that. Think about Anthony bourdain. That man had the lifestyle most people can only dream of to give themselves relief in their darkest times and yet here we are, the nikka was found hanging in a 5 star hotel room :wow:

The only things that can keep us going are community. Communal grief, communal joy, communal empathy. Knowing that whatever you are going through, you aren't going through it alone. This is what has sustained us through the worst injustices. Emmett till's mother didnt grieve alone. Malcom Xs anger wasnt felt alone. Dr. Kings family didnt grieve his loss alone.

When people get laid off, get curved, have a long relationship end, or any other sort of personal setback or tragedy, they come here. And they get jokes, they get empathy, they get communal experience. I've been in very dark places in my life and what has truly helped was reaching out to others who experienced or at the very least could listen to and empathize with my pain.

Here's an example: a kid out of out of a slum in a third world country grows to be 6'11 he gets scouted by NBA scouts whilst playing ball in school gets drafted

is offered all the hope in the world and sponsorships tears both ACLs Achilles before his rookie season and his career is over before it started... there was sooo much potential that was stripped away.... he is unable to pay the tuition fees has no friends and ends up in crippling debt and can't even return to see his fam. When he finally makes money from washing floors he gets a ticket to travel back he returns to the village and tells everyone how he feels they tell him well you're tall and at least you got to go to America and eat well while we're struggling...

it's all perspective

the pain of unreached potential is pretty :mjcry:

then there are people who have reached their life goals and are unable to create more so their existence seems bleak sans Tyson Fury (he turned it around literally)

Dating someone years ago who had legit mental health issues and suicidal thoughts really changed my outlook. I used to think it was either a person being selfish or just not strong enough to deal with tough times in life.

Reality is that depression is a legit disease. They don't want to feel suicidal but their mind is pretty much forcing them to and for some it's the only way to get a release from the pain. It's a chemical inbalance that they have little control over, regardless of how great or bad their life is. Meds don't really help. It's like bleach. Meds cover up the stain but they don't actually clean anything, still dirty underneath.

People need to start viewing depression the way we view cancer and other diseases

There are homeless people out there with nothing to live for and they still living and not committing suicide, so how bleak of a situation are you living in? Aren't you in law school? I don't think failing your classes counts as a bleak situation worthy of killing yourself but I'm not in law school so what do I know. :francis:

Certain people I don't blame at all for committing suicide. A lot of people are just existing and wasting time alive anyway. If someone is stuck living a mediocre and uninspiring boring life that they hate and they want to leave early then I don't blame them. Some people can be satisfied having a place to live in, food, and a bed to sleep in but some people have higher expectations than the bare minimum.

I thought it was lame and weak to commit suicide before but if somebody is washed up and life has passed them by and they don't want to live another 20+ or 30+ years with no hope they can go ahead and check out if they want :manny: The people I don't get who commit suicide are those that have reasons to live and can live a comfortable and enjoyable life but aren't satisfied. Those are the people I view as weak.

Funny the same reasons you cape for suicide is the same reasons I will never consider it

It would be beyond disrespectful to my ancestors who were mistreated, killed, enslaved, kept as zoo animals, had their life ruined and never had a fair chance in life to WASTE life.

If you got a terminal illness, etc it would be different.

I haven’t read the whole thread and I understand where you’re coming from. Life isn’t always easy. And it’s even easier to forget what we should be grateful for in life.

Just remember that every single one of us here won the lottery. We were the strongest out of millions to be born. The fact we’re here is a miracle. And the fact we have opportunities compared to millions of others in the world is a bigger blessing.

It’s far from perfect. There’s a lot of bullshyt we’ve got to deal with, but you’ve got to make the most of it. If we’re strong enough to get here then we’re strong enough to survive.
