You've probably been hanging out with the fob crowds, most East Africans who were born in the west arent really that xenophobic. Anyway Ethiopian people didn't interact with the rest of East Africa because we were used of the ethio highlands and we don't have immunity to tropical diseases like most Africans who lived in the tropics. So everytime an ethio or a habesha tried to leave the ethio highlands, we would just die as a result of tropical diseases the average non Horner East African was immune to. So that's why you don't see much influence of Ethiopian civilisation in the rest of East or Central Africa. Same reason why cacs found it difficult to colonise other parts of Africa besides the temperate zones of South Africa untill they discovered antibodies and antibiotics.

Certainly I was just noting about a general tongue and cheek aspect of the culture. Actually, it's in a way a salute in that Ethio culture is rooted in community and social aspects. Many very old cultures have this as a big aspect of behavior and its really cool in some ways.
Also, no, these are not FOBs but rather people that have done their best to embrace and become a part of the way here, but also maintain their culture by being around each other as well. It's just funny to see the interactions and interesting.

Also, to a degree, the lack or lesser of influence from a colonizer(will not get into the back and forth about if Ethio was actually colonized or not) also influences that separate/isolated culture aspects.

Also most Ethio I know were born there and not particularly in Addis either. Some moved to Addis as they got older, but most I know are NOT from 'the city" per se'
