You dont need to travel to another country to be fluent in another language so dont take that advice. Get you a free app for vocab and get a language partner off one of the sites that was already posted in here. The way to learn any language is through speaking.

Teach yourself as much grammar and vocabulary as you can (these are very important despite what some people on here might tell you), and immerse yourself once you're comfortable enough to speak conversational Spanish (while still teaching yourself more vocabulary and grammar). And always read things in Spanish once your knowledge is good enough to do so.

Agreed, and traveling to another country is not going to help you that much unless you teach yourself the grammar first. It would be like if I went to China right now, I wouldn't learn shyt until I actively try to teach myself how the language works.

Think of all the immigrants in the US who have been here for years and barely speak English.

Mexicans can barely read or write in Spanish. Only way to learn is to travel and relocate in my experiences

I want to point out that having a Hispanic-American gf is not gonna make you fluent in Spanish. She probably won't have the patience to teach you nonstop if she's even proficient herself in the first place

Listen I know the pronouns. The Yo, Th, Nosotros. I know verbs. Trabajar means work. Salir means leave. Mirar means watch. U can know all these verbs. I can write some sentences in Spanish. But the minute someone starts talking to u in Spanish in that fast paced tone. Ur gonna struggle. Its one thing to say what's pre written or pre thought out. But can u speak it on the fly fluently?

I know right
we were on vacation in Mexico , some locals come up to us and said something in Spanish ( something simple)
I understood it and answered in Spanish .
the look on their faces was like :krs:

then they started speaking so damn fast i only caught like one out of every five words.

i was looking at them like

And this right here is spot on....

Reading spanish and listening and responding to Spanish on the fly is like driving a car and flying a plane..

Those are two completely different skillsets..because people on the street use idioms, slang words, use verbs in some contexts, some things dont translate directly from english etc

Language learning is a skill that requires considerable effort to put in and people really are very flippant about what it takes to even become casually conversational.

The only Spanish I know is from the Culo Gigante series. I really want to become fluent in it in the next 6-10 months.

What’s the best method? A Rosetta Stone dvd? Taking classes? Learning through friends?

Thanks in advance.
Hows your Spanish coming?

Get a tutor. There are some websites where you can hire tutors for webcam classes at a reasonable price for hour-long lessons
