I think that's the difference too. I've only recently gotten hip to how much logistics plays a part in dating. In school females were just there so it was just a matter of actually trying them and doing it well. Even if I wasn't hitting the approaches hard and my game was weaker, I could still trip and fall in some p*ssy if I was lucky cause women were usually close enough for it to happen.

But when folks get grown they don't be at places chicks be at as often. (sans bars and such) You get a car so no more macking at the bus stop. You out of school so no more macking chicks in class. You too old to loiter so no more chilling at the mall wit ya boys macking chicks etc.

The other big blocker is how self conscious people get. You said it yourself "everywhere was fair game". Most dudes are too in their own heads or too self conscious of some strangers seeing them get played to approach women they see in the street.

The bolded tho is powerful, I had that problem heavy. I would be at a party waiting for he right moment or song to go at a chick and by the time I got ready she was about to dip out. Took a while to get thru to myself to say "fukk a perfect moment, any situation where she's there is a good enough".

I don't know what that was about but if I was in the neighborhood I was coming thru...

Again I don't even know why I was doing that but it was later in life when I realized it was "assertive"...
