Serious question, can a person get fined or sent to jail for lying on their resume?

Say I wanna be a manager at some random place. I had fake experience on my resume, got hired, and developed a manager gimmick for five years. What would happdn if they disocver I'm a fraud?

I mean technically yes.

I’ve heard HR people say that pretty much at any time the company can go through and verify everything on someone’s resume at any time (including after they’ve hired you). Even years down the line when they’re an executive.

And there are horror stories of people being caught and blacklisted.

But realistically, I don’t think it happens often. And is more rare but idk I’ve never done any over the top lies.

The worst I’ve done is stretch a 2 week “internship” into a 8 month position. Haven’t gotten any roles on that resume yet and idk if it’s just because my resume sucks or if they try and verify but can’t find anything so they throw my app away.

I def don’t think it’s the latter tho.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
@HoldThisL theres levels to lying. Gotta do it smart.

One thing you def don’t want to do is lie about your education.

The main thing I lie about on my resume are skills that I know I can learn myself by the the time they hire me.

The best way to lie on your resume is to just extend the truths. But never lie about your education tho.
