Quik was bigger as a debut artist than Kanye and had no original disconnect between the streets.
Plus, quik you can say used the impact of nwa to get on as a draw.

He was as commercial as commercial could be for a gangsta rapper then.

Somehow quik can be given the nod for making the bubble goose and skully a nationwide hood drawing gear phenomenon.
As it pertains to looking like a gangsta in that era.
All because he rocked one in a Cali video with the skullie.
When, people had no idea the temp in Cali plummets drastically, at night during winter months.
So, he was a bigger deal than ye.
It was just his crew was the worst..that even he could not rebolster a cultural standing and why should he,...his crew was th worst and he endorsed them, fully.
Those dudes went gold and platinum, too.
They pretty much etched out the archetype for the large drawing wack west coast gangsta rap crew.
Then, you got that oversaturation of westcoast gangsta wack rappers in abundance and the rest is history.
Quik, is the guy who authenticated the floodgates to be open for the wack gangsta rapper.

Everybody who says Quik's name tries to act like this fact did not happen.

You weren't into it, you just didn't pay attention, the first track you heard from him you wasn't feeling... whatever the case may be. Your "mainstream" doesn't have to be Snoop or Fresh Prince; the radio wasn't dominated by 5 artists in the 90s. There were plenty of mainstream artists at the time who you couldn't even name today.
