Someone said something on twitter that made me think..

You got all these people (especially the younger crowd teens and early 20's) claiming they wish hip hop was how it used to be (meaning the peak of the 90s) meanwhile most of these people didn't even experience the peak of 90's hip hop.. it's all idealism..

so with that said, someone who lived and experience the early - mid 2000's, i've come to the conclusion, these eras of hip hop are all a time and a place thing. i'm sure a lot of these artists who were makin music durin that time period were sayin shyt like "we need to bring hip hop back to how it was durin an earlier time, etc etc"

like you don't hear cats like Nas and Jay sayin shyt like this, if anything they're givin props, where props is due to cats makin music nowadays..

durin the early-mid 00's there was a lot of quality shyt that came out, lookin back, and durin that time, i don't think we necessarily grasped how huge and what an impact it actually made.. until it was gone

im not sure the point of this thread, its mostly me just thinkin out loud, and wondering if anyone else feels or thinks the same way..

tldr: hip hop nostalgia is all a time, and a place thing

The 90's is gone. Ifyou want it back justgo to youtube and type in a rappers name. Accept where the times are now because the music of now is the offspring of the yesteryear. In 20 years someone who is a teen now willl say the same thing about this era......Just like Steve Harvey was saying how he wanted the 70's back in the year 2000.

Don't worry, in 10-15 years they will be talking about how 00-10 was the golden age of hip hop.....

It never fails. I grew up and loved the 90s hip hop but it ain't never coming back. period.

Its crazy because when you young, you just think rap is gonna get better and better and never go backwards..

But we have had some shytty periods in the last 5-10 years, like the snap music phase, the auto tune phase, the stupid dance phase..

Even with that, you still got some great music from other artists during that time that get overshadowed by what was popular...

The main thing I miss about the 90s was the rap groups and dope rap videos both which are pretty much non-existent

I don't want to bring the 90s back, I just want some of the current rappers to do better and be more creative. But I kinda blame the rap labels just as much as i blame the rappers themselves

True, we know this but they don't and include rappers like them and others like them.

One thing people fail to realize is that the reason that many eras are the way they are is the surroundings. We will never get music out of the west coast like it was in the 90s because back then you had the LA riots and constant harassment from the police that got ignored by the media. There's a damn good article on ego trip that highlights this, J Zone wrote it and I highly suggest you read it.

I think what people miss is the standard, the soul in the music, the mystique, the edgier more dangerous brand of music moreso than the era itself. If the characteristics of the era came back or endured through the years it wouldn't be calls to bring such and such back but rather that such and such is the best time since the 90s. Of course you'll still have people bytchin about it being a problem so its not like it'll be all love.

If I'm right, rap music is cyclical like rock music and it'll find itself force back into lanes its left behind due to oversaturation. Of course, I could be wrong and music along with greater society will continue to degenerate into bullshyt.
