There's no way to spin this as a flop for the following reasons:

Rebirth and the first I Am Not A Human Being dropped when Wayne was more popular than he is now. Both had big name producers and features. Both had videos. Both of those projects did a fraction of what Carter 3 did. In fact, C3 did more in week what the first IANAHB did overall.

Rebirth- 176K first week

I Am Not A Human Being- 110K-125K first week from digital sales.

I Am Not A Human Being 2- projected 175-210K

^^^ How is this a disappointment? Especially since both of his previous non-Carter albums sold less.

this is very true.:myman:

and for the people posting in this thread, yall are too concerned with these nicca's albums sales...who really cares that much? :wow:

I only purchase Kid cudi albums anyways :manny:

LOL @ "It's a side project". I mean really? You dudes are acting like this album was some young money compilation. It's a LIL WAYNE album with 3 huge videos how is it a "Side Project"? Just stop the excuses, it's clear the album was weak and the fans responded. These are lower numbers than Kendrick, Nicki, Ross. Not that far off from NaS "Life Is Good", the album people say "Wasn't hot". It's clear the album sales are not up to par with the "Hottest Rapper in the Game" or "Best rapper alive". What does "Rebirth" have to do with this? that was an experimental rock album. "I am not a human being part 1" was released why he was in jail. This album won't even outsell either of those albums.

I'm not heavy on MTV or the radio and I can still tell when a project has a big budget behind it. This is not one of those projects. A bunch of Wayne throwaway material and the only real promo was him sleeping in a hospital for a couple days.

So, just going by his last 5 album releases: Lil Wayne needs a big budget and it needs to be named "Carter _" for it to sell past Gold? Do you see that pattern for any other artist besides Wayne? It's weird because most major artists have actual fanbases that support the artist, I guess Wayne fans need to be sold for them to support.

IANAHB isn't Wayne's 'flagship line.' If this same album was titled The Carter V it would sell better.

This album being secondary isn't an excuse, it's a fact. Wayne made this clear in his MTV interview a few months ago.

I crunched some numbers for you guys. Is it a flop? Not when compared to the rest of the game. But for the standards that Wayne has set for himself and what he fans set for him it's clearly not up to par. Here are the top opening weeks of in the last year or so:

Nicki - 253k
Kendrick - 243k
Ross - 218k
GOOD music - 205k
T.I. - 179k
Meek - 165k
NaS - 150k
2 Chainz - 149k
Wiz - 141k
ASAP - 139k

So if the 200k estimate holds as I said, not a flop from today's standards but the man is coming off 924k just a year a half ago. That's a steep drop.

Most artists don't have two different series(And what you see here is a good reason why.) When someone tells you one thing is more important than the other, it reflects in the sales.

Honestly to me it's an excuse. Fans didn't skip "The Black Album" or "Kingdom Come" cause "It's not the blueprint or Vol series". Flagship? The Carter 1 and 2 didn't break the charts open only the last 2 did. It makes no sense that your fanbase would skip over albums of your work when you are suppose to be the hottest in the game. It's clear the fans are now holding Wayne a little more accountable for subpar material. This isn't a case of "Oh it's not the Carter". It's a case of IMO him dropping another average album and the fans aren't going to reward him for it.

When did Jay-Z say those albums were less important? You comparisons don't work, breh.

I love how nikkas round up numbers on here.

Kanye did 957k with Graduation? Niggs said not a milli.
JT did 980k with 20/20? nikkas said not a milli. (So they say Wayne was the last rap/r&b artist to do a milli.)

But Wayne with 964k on C4? Every nikka on here says that's a milli...

Wayne fans (on the Coli and in real life) ride for that dude so hard. :wow:

It only sold low like it did last time cause he was inside

This ain't no "side" album, no "experimental" album, it's a regular release so I don't see what could be good about these numbers

I wouldn't exactly call I Am Not A Human Being 2 a side project, but it's different from the previous two Carter albums. It's different because the Carter series targets a broader audience. IANAHB misses the part of Wayne's fanbase that songs like "How To Love" and "Lollipop" appeal to. The same way the first one didn't reach that part of Wayne's fanbase. The first IANAHB sold much less than C3, but C4 did much better than the first IANAHB. There is a pattern there. It seems like Wayne's fans don't care much about anything not labeled 'Carter'.

If fans are holding him accountable for the quality of his music, C4 wasn't received well by a lot of Wayne fans, but it still sold nearly 1 million copies in it's opening week.
