Dont tell me he sold the rights to WB:mindblown:

That is the question I am asking.

It’s 2021 and people still don’t know how things work.

Ice Cube wants to do a movie. He has a few options. 100% finance it himself and then find a distributor and marketer to promote it, put it out and split the profits with, find independent financiers or individuals who give him money in exchange for a percentage, or take your idea and script to movie studios and pitch it to them.

In the case of Friday, they took the last option. New Line Cinema (which has been owned by WB since 1994) “bought” the movie, which means they own it, and are responsible for all the money it takes to make, promote and deliver a movie.

The only way to maintain ownership of a property or its rights is to completely make it yourself and not accept any outside money.

Now Friday is overrated???? Gtfoh with this one coli brehs....the main demographic for these films will still fukk with it. We might be 40+ plus but Friday holds a special place in our hearts. That was the hood, it wasn't just dope dealing and murder, sitting on the porch on a random day was a cool thing to do and you could see so much fukkery and possibly get into some fukkery

For those who don’t know, the studios own the rights to all the movies they finance.

And since movies are so expensive to finance the typical writer or director has no choice but to sign away the rights.

What’s foul is they will hold a movie or screenplay hostage even if an artist can get it made somewhere else and they have no intention of ever doing anything with the property.

Instead of creating another Friday, why create something different like Saturday, Sunday with all different characters? That’s the problem...there’s too many remakes of classic movies that will always fall short of the original. I wouldn’t say Next Friday and Friday After Next are terrible movies but they’re definitely not that great either.

Mike Epps is good on screen but he’s definitely not no Chris Tucker who’s talent jumps out in front of you. If Chris was in any of the other Friday movies they would be better but they never was gonna be able to recreate the magic of the first one.
