LOL fukk no. Ice Cube disbanded the one of, if not the hardest hip hop act the time, Nas didnt even put a scratch on Jay-Z (and the beat is WHACK AS fukk). No Vaseline is objectively the greatest diss ever.

"Ether" has literally become a regularly used word for the verbiage/information used when someone completely destroys someone, lol.

And?

It’s a hell of a diss but I don’t think that song is even top 5 on Death Certificate

No Vaseline never got a response back if I'm not mistaken

MC REN EXPLAINS WHY N.W.A DIDN'T RECORD ICE CUBE DISS TRACK AFTER "NO VASELINE"

LOS ANGELES, CA -
Ice Cube’s “No Vaseline” is well-known as one of the most scathing diss records in Hip Hop history. The former N.W.A member aired out his crew, but there was never a significant response from the remaining four members of the World’s Most Dangerous Group.
In an interview with Unique Access Entertainment, MC Ren explains why they never recorded a response diss track to Cube. Before “No Vaseline,” they creatively wove the first strikes into their 100 Miles and Runnin’ EP and second studio album, Efil4Zaggin, also known as nikkaz 4 Life. They painted their foe as Benedict Arnold with the EP’s title track, “Real nikkaz,” “Message to B.A.” skit and Dr. Dre directly calling O’Shea Jackson a “bytch” on “Alwayz Into Somethin.” But they left it at that.
“We never was like, ‘We gonna do a record on him,'” Ren says. “We was doing the nikkaz 4 Life album and Dre came up with the idea to do a commercial, like a skit or whatever. We did that skit or whatever and that was it. But it was like, nah, we wasn’t in there like ‘We finna do a diss record.'”

Cube was just happy to get away from the bad business with Jerry Heller and drop Amerikka's Most Wanted.

Cube was focused on Cube. He wasnt going to diss them. Then they started with that Benedict Arnold shyt and Dre did that "Here's What They Think About You" skit calling him a bytch.

That clearly set Cube off. He even did a version of the skit before he laid into them.

I think Heller put a battery on their back when it never had to go there. I also think Dre was jealous at that time that Cube recognized the business wasn't right and had the balls to strike out on his own

I know they were young but it was stupid. It's probably not a good idea to go after the star lyricist who wrote most of your best material with a war of words.

Ren was no slouch but Ren was also no Ice Cube.

As vicious as No Vaseline is I put it behind Ether because even though they provoked him and he went all in, it was pretty easy pickings. It's not like if after Method Man's first album, Wu Tang got jealous and dissed him only for him to eat the entire Clan alive.

Despite it being a group and all of them playing a significant part, Cube was THE guy In NWA when it came to rapping.

On the other hand, Ether was the killshot in a showdown between two S Tier elite rappers. A sleeping giant was woken up and a seemingly invincible rapper lost.

The all mighty fell And paid for his hubris. Then he whined about it for two albums and pulled a retirement stunt that didn't take.

First of all, "Dollaz & Sense" is a top 5 diss track, arguably top 3.

But "Let's Go"? Over "To The Break of Dawn"? Over "The bytch In Yoo"? :stopitslime:

This nikka trippin.

Easily Top 5.

Gotta throw in "The Bridge is Over", "The B*tch in Yoo", "Ether" and LL's "To Da Break of Dawn" too.

Those are the 5 best diss tracks of all time, with "No Vaseline".

And?
Nas made Jayz abandon his whole slogan, 🥹.

Pre-Ether “I will not lose!!”

Post-Ether “Fore I will not lose cause even in defeat / there’s a valuable lesson learned so…😔” stfu Jigga

Ether showed that Jayz could bleed…profusely, 😱

And…I mean…when your diss track title becomes synonymous with complete obliteration of someone after you drop it I think one can say you have the best diss record ever champ, 🤷🏽‍♂️

I prefer No Vaseline to Ether but...BUT...

Ether literally became a verb. "He ethered them", etc, etc.. I never heard anyone say "He got no Vaseline'd" EVER lol

You suppose to let other people say it

Cube gets overlooked enough that at this point he can say it.

It’s a hell of a diss but I don’t think that song is even top 5 on Death Certificate

Idk if this matters, Ether isn't a top 5 song on Stillmatic.

(And Death Certificate is arguably a top3 hip hop album of all time.)

Lil B dropped this less than 24 hrs after Buddens dissed him on Twitter.

Edit: Matter fact, it was less than an hour.
