And Ice Cube was the first once to leave NWA and embrace Public Enemy/ Bombsquad

"Real nikka" mentality crippled the creativity and uniqueness of black men @Wear My Dawg's Hat

Ice Cube finally admits that gangsta rap did more harm than good in the black male's image of the modern era.

In the interview, Cube does say that NWA never intended (they were teenagers at the time...) for their material to blow up in the way that it did
-- they intended their music to remain "underground." But once you start making videos for MTV, BET, The Box, Video Music Box and go on tour
opening for Guns 'N Roses, the "underground" intentions go way out the window. They became the global ambassadors for South Los Angeles gangbanging "culture."

So, "Real nikkaz Don't Die" became a worldwide young Black male ethos - a belief system essentially replacing Christianity, Islam/NOI/Five Percentism, etc. It has even taken on the form of being a distorted inheritor of "Black Power."

So today's Drill Advocates equate Real nikkaism with an authentic "Blackness" identity. It has been passed down to them.

He is right and it was obvious. I dont know how stating that shyt became synonymous with being a c00n or anti-black.

Music is one of the most powerful tools humans have developed. It is scientific fact that music helps humans learn and remember important information but somehow nikkas think that only applies to positive behaviors. It applies to negativity as well and thats all this music is pumping out now. You barely have any options other than extreme violence, drugs, or explicit sex. Its foolish to expect children to listen to that garbage all day and it not affect their mind.

Even back in the 90s, young black males were shamed for not listening to rap and not being super hood. Cats believed that if you didn't like to DMX, MOP, The LOX, or other groups, you weren't authentically BLACK and you are white washed.

Nope he got killed when he was younger I believe.
It was rhetorical. I knew the father wouldn’t be present because 9 times out of 10 they are not in these situations. Nobody wants to talk about that though and how it likely has more to do with the bad outcomes than the so-called influence of rap music. That’s why these discussions irritate me.

You have your own mind. Folks try to act like rap music hypnotizes folks into committing crime. If you wanna get into foolishness you'll do it whether it's NWA or Taylor Swift coming through the headphones.

Also? Seeing an influx of right wing leaning talking points spread on here lately. Been an uptick. :mjpls:
Election getting closer and there's fear on both sides

Right wingers afraid that what people have been saying about Trump is true, that he offers nothing of substance, continues to be unqualified for the office, and has no juice.

Left wingers worried about virtue signaling and continuing the great DNC tradition of party cannibalism and misusing the word "progressive".

Yes Cube heavily contributed to this shyt. I can guarantee him becoming more conservative has to do with the conflict of accepting his part. I think as a solo Artist he was as way more balanced and responsible but in his NWA days he facilitated this shyt. Directly writing for Eazy and so forth. It must weigh on him to know his success came at the hands of something that would veer way off path.

Rap no longer has a balance or any moral code and barely any knowledge of self be it 5%, Islam or anything. It's empty and soulless most times. There's no Yang to the Ying for street content. Old heads are being honest moste and more...people can keep dismissing it as old head rants but it's about saving the future. Be honest about today and all of our parts as consumers and producers of content that has become detrimental. We all have a part to play in changing the course of the future for Black youth.

It won't be the labels that do it or anyone else people want to bear blame that is leeching off the "culture" for profit. It's on us. .

And its not just music.

It has been a full, LIMITED lifestyle that has been promoted for AND by young Black males with unprecedented resources and effort.

It became movies and home video: Boyz In The Hood, Juice, Menace II Society, Belly, Paid In Full

It became full, multisession tv series: Empire, Snowfall, Power/ Power Book II, Power Book III, BMF, Godfather of Harlem

It became magazines: FEDS, Felon, Don Diva

It became clothing lines: Wu Wear, State Property, Roc-A-Wear

It has even become NFL Super Bowl halftime show worthy (Ever wonder how come Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross, Freddie Jackson, Frankie Beverly or Grover Washington Jr never made it to NFL Super Bowl show???) :

There are first world countries where alcool commercials are banned on TV for the same reasons.

I know thecoli is full of world class sociologists, psychologists and anthropologists, but anyone trying to make an argument that commercial/marketing does not influence people is an idiot.
Anything can influence anyone to an extent but people aren’t mindless drones who don’t have free will.

Even neuroscientists are aware of the effect that music has on the brain.

In this groundbreaking union of art and science, rocker-turned-neuroscientist Daniel J. Levitin explores the connection between music—its performance, its composition, how we listen to it, why we enjoy it—and the human brain.

Taking on prominent thinkers who argue that music is nothing more than an evolutionary accident, Levitin poses that music is fundamental to our species, perhaps even more so than language. Drawing on the latest research and on musical examples ranging from Mozart to Duke Ellington to Van Halen, he reveals:

• How composers produce some of the most pleasurable effects of listening to music by exploiting the way our brains make sense of the world
• Why we are so emotionally attached to the music we listened to as teenagers, whether it was Fleetwood Mac, U2, or Dr. Dre
• That practice, rather than talent, is the driving force behind musical expertise
• How those insidious little jingles (called earworms) get stuck in our head
