Meanwhile yall are being dishonest by acting like Cube didnt explore all sides and cover the pitfalls of criminality in his music:respect:

This is my entire issue with this whole topic.

If anyone wants to say Rap Music was a net negative for “the community“, that’s their right to their opinion. But what they’re not gonna do within my earshot is act like we never got any worthwhile commentary about The Urban American Experience from it, be it negative or positive. This is the question I always ask:

If the music influences you to be destructive, what do you do when the same music tells you not to be destructive?
Does that influence not count?

Ice Cube was always one of those rappers (and there were a lot) who explored all the sides of that experience, and it is the absence of that idea which can be the thing that broke the proverbial levee to be able to say this plainly now.

If we wanna be real about it (and we do), Ice Cube’s music has reflected this take for a long time. This is why the Rap World generally has a bad opinion of or doesn‘t like Lethal Injection. Or Don Mega (insert your Don MAGA joke here, lol).

Exactly.

And the reason alot of hiphop fans are defensive and will play dumb like it doesnt have a negative influence is understandable in a way. Us as fans and especially the hiphop media rarely talk about the positive influence hiphop has had. So when you see it always being bashed for its negative influence you get the urge to defend it. Because on a personal level you know thats not the only way it influenced you.

Plus for some of us its just the default setting. Because hiphop has been highlighted for negativity even back when it was ALOT of Cubes, and when it was predominately positive.

But if we being real we have to admit it does influence and promote criminality. And there are far less Cubes in recent times, and far more pure ignorance.

Fair.

About the bolded: I can’t speak for anybody else, but Rap is the only time anybody seems to care what a Black Male has to say.
And the fact that we tend to conflict with each other in that paradigm is a positive to me, because it proves to society we are not a monolith.
Negative and Positive are arguable imo.

Take away rap and we would still have violence and bad parenting. :manny:

Can you prove that :jbhmm:

And tell us the alternative positive messages and teachings of enlightenment Black youth are being exposed to on the same scale as hiphop :patrice:

You know the saying "you are what you eat" right..
Meaning you can’t be fed a diet of shyt daily, you need to vary sustenance greatly or you become shyt too..simple.

Black kids are constantly being bombarded with mind numbing, debilitating and stupidity inducing messaging and imagery meant to psychologically remove them from larger society and turn them into a separate underclass that cannot compete.

Its all by design and Ice Cube got paid handsomely for leading Black minds astray to the gutter.

Ahh yes, the kids with dysfunctional parents..well their lives are practically over and they should be forgotten about, right? :comeon:

And why are you being so selfish, only speaking from your own perspective forgetting there are dumber less fortunate people out there who process information differently due to environment, education etc..
Saying youre fine and above everything doesnt equate or extend to other people breh. :gucci:

Music about crimes can influence people to commit said crimes. It’s all programming. It’s sad to say but the OGs yall claim to love so much helped sell the genre out decades ago

Nah bad parenting and no fathers in the homes have done more damage than anything.

But has rap music contributed to bad parenting and absent fathers?

It's going have to be studied and unpacked. Because if anyone can substantiate rap music influenced people to be bad parents....WHOA!

There will be arguments that rap music was a worst epidemic than crack!

Look up to 1993 nothing was wrong with hip hop because u had balance

Yeah you heard radio and tv gangster this gangster that talk, but at the same time u had a public enemy, xclan, souls of mischief, pharcyde, epmd, slick rick, doc, de la soul, tribe called quest, geto boys, Krs one/bdp and early on tupac and ice cube who had death certificate and AMW album and even hammer and kid n play had they crowd

That was a mixture of hip hop and the music had a message

When 93 turn to straight street shyt with suge and death row it was over

Look how run dmc go from my adidas and leather coats and hats to timbs and hoodies

Mc lyte all of a sudden wearing timbs and saying she wants a ruffneck and that wasn’t even her

Ice cube goes from Islam to westside connection to a don mega… Even common dissed him on being a flip flopper

And so on and so on with other artist

The last 30 years hip hop has been all street/gangster shyt and has gotten worse..

Also hip hop has mad trillions of dollars and it has nothing to show for it for the once black community it has exploited

nikkas are so slow and blind because we keep yelling the same well well 50 , Jay , Puff etc has made it,, yeah they made it off of exploiting the hoods but them and others are especially the black executives like Steve Stoute never came back and dis anything to help/repair the communities as a whole
