This is my entire issue with this whole topic.
If anyone wants to say Rap Music was a net negative for “the community“, that’s their right to their opinion. But what they’re not gonna do within my earshot is act like we never got any worthwhile commentary about The Urban American Experience from it, be it negative or positive. This is the question I always ask:
If the music influences you to be destructive, what do you do when the same music tells you not to be destructive?
Does that influence not count?
Ice Cube was always one of those rappers (and there were a lot) who explored all the sides of that experience, and it is the absence of that idea which can be the thing that broke the proverbial levee to be able to say this plainly now.
If we wanna be real about it (and we do), Ice Cube’s music has reflected this take for a long time. This is why the Rap World generally has a bad opinion of or doesn‘t like Lethal Injection. Or Don Mega (insert your Don MAGA joke here, lol).
