I don't get how people think Prodigy is a great lyricist but not Cube. That's mind boggling. Exactly what verse dos P have that's mentally stimulating? That talks about something of real social importance that's prolific? Cube has albums full of those type of verses.

Personally I prefer P, but I know better than to put him over Cube. Cube means more to the game than P just off Death Certificate alone. When it comes to GOAT West Coast artists, there's Pac, and then Cube.

I'm a Mobb Deep stan, but man, this is an odd comparison. I like P more as an MC than Cube, but Cube tops P in everything else, from the amount of classic solo songs, to legacy.

Well to be fair to P, being a concious rapper wasn't his steeze. His aim is to just make dark and grimy street shyt, which he excelled at.

I don't have a problem with that, and I agree, but to me, in order for me to say someone is superior than someone else lyrically when one guys content is exceptional and the other person's content is all street shyt, then the person speaking street shyt has to be exceptionally better at metaphors, punchlines, similies, wordplay, compound rhyming...something. P isn't better than Cube at any of that. If someone said AZ is better than Cube lyrically, I can see that. Cause even though AZ's content is very one dimensional his rhyming ability is on another level. Prodigy doesn't rhyme better than Cube in any capacity. P doesn't do metaphors, he doesn't do compound rhyming, he's not a wordsmith. shyt Ice Cube's "I'm selling more Birds than a Pet Shop" is metaphorically better than anything Prodigy ever said.

P is a rapper that made what he said sound dope as fukk. It sounds much better than it reads. Cube's rhymes are thought provoking, socially aware, etc...They won't blow you away in terms of how complex they are, but they will in how powerful they are. That's where I think the comparison is silly.

So when you talk to these "heads" and they don't talk about Cube its normal, but when nobody mentions Prodigys azz its due to lack of great discussion:rudy:...content wise Pac never covered the range of topics in depth the way Cube did....I already said why he's better than Chuck D,and same goes for KRS....and KRS came out first how could he look up to Cube?dont mean he aint respect em...he wasn't as quick to jump off that ledge as he was wit MC Shan and Nelly when Cube said "Self Destruction don't pay the fukkin rent",you got a subliminal not a full diss record back:russ:

Prodigy is a snooze fest for me to listen too,how you can listen to somebody lay down powerful words and really say profound shyt like Cube over the course of his run and say you would rather hear Prodigy is just beyond my scope...How can you compare a nikka who if he never existed the entire scope of rap as you know it wouldn't be the same with Prodigy who if he never existed it wouldn't even matter outside of Mobb Deep fans in the grand scheme:snoop:...talking about Cube got by on flow and aggression:dahell:.....do those things not make you a great emcee too if done right?does content and what you are actually rapping ABOUT not make you a better emcee? As an emcee Cube is much more important in every regard, from what he's saying, too his impact....I don't care who you say he was a mouthpiece for,his inspiration was his inspiration.....his music is the soundtrack to the thought process of much of black America at the time,he captured it in a time capsule with his lyrics as an emcee....you gon compare that with Prodigy making some shyt relateable to queens:childplease:...id rather hear what Cube got to say and I like how he says it over what prodigy has to say and how he says it....theres no contest

U can keep trying to ignore impact as if it doesnt matter when it does for the period we are discussing....im all for personal preference, but lets not make it like this is really a legit discussion in terms of whos greater than who....they not in the same realm in terms of respect:mjlol:...id even to say people love and respect Jadakiss more than prodigy nationwide, prodigy local:manny:...and yes fans of east coast rap are EVERYWHERE but that don't make you not local imo, just means nikkas who like east coast rap but don't live on the east coast like you:laff:..Jada is luved by all unlike P...keep prodigy in that tier, and oh yeah

:camby:

I'm not saying I've never heard anyone talk about Cube like you said about P. I'm saying I hear more about Mobb Deep, which is true. Most people know in their cars they been playing Hell On Earth, some people play that to hype them before beef lol. Not me by the way lol, but the streets fukk with Mobb Deep, whether we like it or not. Cube is respected also, but nowadays we don't hear about him as much as P. Pac covered A LOT more than Cube and was FAR more diverse, KRS covered MASSES more than Cube. These are facts now not opinions, we could make a list and I'm telling you this is what the results would be lol. I know KRS DOES respect Cube, so do I. You don't have to come out a certain time to look up to someone. Prodigy came out before Nas but looks up to him. Again not true, KRS dissed Cube in an interview, think it was in The Source, actually recorded rhymes but he quite liked Cube so he scrapped it ultimately, Cube also has said on several occasions he didn't mean it in that way at all. But it was absloutly not out of fear, KRS would have slaughtered Cube terribly, Common beat Cube, even though it was kind of unfair on Cube after the Peace summit.

I don't mind what your preferences are, but you have to stop thinking everything you think is fact, views gonna vary. I don't feel Cube is profound at all, I'm not sure who really thinks Cube is PROFOUND. He had some content, but really hugely profund? No not to me. Prodigy has had some content too...

Cube is a good MC, possibly even great, but that doesn't mean he's GOAT. He has areas where he's lacking compared to some of the other GOAT contenders. I'm not from Queens so again doesn't make much sense, Prodigy and Mobb Deep are listened to worldwide. If that's the way you feel then so be it, cool lol. Impact doesn't matter to me, or Eminem would be high on my list and he's not. Double standards...

This is the most blatantly incorrect thing you've ever posted. This is absurd lmaooo. Neither one of them discussed more topics than Cube. KRS might have as MANY but not more. And Pac definitely hasn't. Come the fukk on bro. I'm starting to think you've just skipped through a few Cube albums in your life or something. Because there's no way you can sit with full Cube albums and think anyone has touched on more topics.

P wasn't a conscious MC and he came from a different time period in rap, he was from the hardcore NYC resurgence era who on the East Coast was on that conscious shyt that came out from 94-96? I don't know why you don't consider P to be an elite lyricist I'm talking about his run from The Infamous to Murda Muzik look at those verses like Apostle's Warning, Shook Ones, Hell On Earth, Survival of the Fittest, Quiet Storm, Give Up The Goods hell even The Genesis and Keep it Thoro if you want to get into HNIC. Look at the features rapping along LL in I Shot Ya, look at his verse over Alc on Basics. Look at the Yo! MTV Raps freestyle where he outraps Nas and Raekwon.

Anyway P recently is a more conscious MC and he's talked about the American penal system, government conspiracies, growing up with sickle cell, his father leaving him, blacks in America and all of that. From 95-99 he was making NYC hip hop which was mostly grimy shyt and by '99 he was making some tracks for the ladies. Here's a reasonably deep Prodigy verse.

[Verse 2: Prodigy]
Most don't understand how it is
In the world of today growin up as a young black teen
I used to dream, of bein a architect
Easier said than done, believe me it's hard to get
Out of the projects, without forgettin where you came from
My parents told me from day one
Finish school and avoid all obstacles
But my environment, makes it so impossible
For instance, build a strong social life
Without messing up still trying to live right
Like in junior high, I used to wonder why
Certain females went out with certain guys
Then one day, it all dawned on me yo
You gotta be down, and have it goin on see
I wasn't down with the mainstream or
Should I say their team, now I'm gettin steamed
Gotta find a way, to get accepted by my peers
So now I'm sippin on beers

Buyin new gear, nuthin but the best
Forget Levi's strictly Polo and Guess

But how would I make the cash
It gotta be easy and it gotta be fast

Thinkin to myself does that make me lesser
Just, dealin with the peer pressure

Prodigy looked up to Nas becuz he is a lil nikka compared to Nas and I don't mean height wise I mean in terms of stature and respect....KRS wasn't on a lower todem pole in comparison to Cube when it come to that so how could he look up to em?at most there could only be a mutual respect....if you look up to sumbody its either because they came before you and you respect them as a og or simply becuz you know you not on they level:mjpls:...At least Prodigy knows his place.

Far as KrS destroying Cube:wtb:?im not saying its impossible im saying don't be so damn cocky in this assumption when talking about the author of No Vaseline which YOU may not like but its in the top 5 of damn near every diss record ranking list I ever seen and most hiphop fans place it that highly....lemme guess you like Drop a Gem on em better:mjlol:

you don't mind my preference and I don't mind yours....as long as you know this is nothing more than a preference and you have no legs to stand on when actually comparing they all time greatness OTHER THAN your preference its all good....I know all about preferences,I like Stack Bundles more than Biggie but I know theres no historical proof backing me up as to why he's better than Biggie or should be in the same discussion outside of my personal preference:heh:

I don't have a problem with that, and I agree, but to me, in order for me to say someone is superior than someone else lyrically when one guys content is exceptional and the other person's content is all street shyt, then the person speaking street shyt has to be exceptionally better at metaphors, punchlines, similies, wordplay, compound rhyming...something.

I'm not so sure I get this reasoning, of course it's great to have diverse subject matter, but if your raps are whack, then what you're trying to say will never resonate with anyone. This applies to ALL kinds of rappers, not just street rappers, so I don't get why you would only care about the level of lyrcism that comes from street rappers, and not rappers like Cube.

As for the last part, I think that you're severely underrating Prodigy here. If you were talking about his performance on The Infamous, I can somewhat agree to him being on even footing with Cube in terms of lyricism, because whether you realise it or not, P and Cube have the same approach to rap, more focus on having a dope delivery and straight forward lyrics without getting too metaphorical or abstract.

But if we're talking Hell On Earth P onwards, I'd have to vehemently disagree. Apostles Warning and Still Shining are just two examples of Prodigy getting metaphorical as hell. Prodigy is better with imagery than Cube, as you can see on Get Dealt With. P in his prime was cranking out quotables like motherfukker, that's why he's one of the more sampled artists in rap.

The only things I will say that Cube has over P in spades is more diverse subject matter, and depth. That's why I can agree with the last part here, but I thinlk that you're severely underrating Prodigy as a lyricist, he's a lot closer to Cube than you think.

in fairness to Cube his aim wasn't to be the best lyricist but it was to actually say put out a powerful message which he excelled at...its like slighting Chuck D or Scarface for not being great technical lyricist and holding up somebodys who's aim it was to be a great technical lyricist and ignoring the fact those nikkas couldn't excel at doing what Chuck or Scarface could do:dahell:....now lets take a look at impact, lets take a look at respect, lets take a look at stature as to where each are held when it comes to "all time" by the hiphop community from the backpackers to the streets....who "excelled" more...I rest my case

When did I knock Cube for not being lyrical? :dahell: I know that you don't have to be lyrically complex to make dope music. It's all about using whatever skills you have to bring something to the table, and Cube did that and then some.

But Cube is respected and looks up to KRS though. I'm not really bothered what lists say, good track but wouldn't be in my top 5. KRS I feel would have obliterated Cube, he's a vastly better MC in my opinion, and can attack on more levels. I do though, the fact I believe P is a better MC with better albums, it's not just an oh I like so so better, I have many reasons why. That's what I stand on. I don't care what anyone else thinks about my opinion lol. If someone thinks Stack Biggie cool, if they have genuine reasons so be it, don't mean have to agree. MCin isn't just statistical, there technical skills involved and many other intangibles. The rules aren't like a sportsmen where it's based on success.
