Trust me, he’s. Watch ‘The Shop’ episode that featured him, LeBron, etc. And there are other interviews where he spoke about it. Yes, it’s subtle but his body language shows he wants the role. It’s also the reason why he picked the ‘Luther’ role - to position himself for the ‘Bond’ role.

Anyway, I don’t think he’ll get it. The mixed breh from ‘Bridgerton’ (Rege-Jean Page) looks like he’s being groomed for the role & white Brits love. His dad is also white. And recently, I read that the director likes Michael Ward for the role. So, you never know.

“It is not a goal for my career. I don’t think that playing Bond will satisfy some of my personal goals. It will definitely satisfy the will of a nation. I’m not gonna lie, every corner of the world I go, and I’m talking about different cultures, they always go ‘Bond.’ And I feel it is beyond me at this junction. It’s beyond me. It’s not a question of, should I, do I, will I. It is what the will of the nation dictates sometimes.”

I disagree with the "racism is only as powerful as you allow it to be" part, but other than that, what he is saying is that he doesn't want to be defined as an actor by his race. Just like a white actor isn't thought of as a white actor, but just an actor, he wants to be thought of as just an actor. I said it in another thread, in white supremacy, white is the default, everybody else is a deviation. So constantly labelling him as a black actor is just another aspect of a racist system.

I'm shocked you can't see the paradox in this statement. How can you go from "it's not a goal for my career", to "it will definitely satisfy the will of a nation" and finish off with, "It’s beyond me. It’s not a question of, should I, do I, will I. It is what the will of the nation dictates sometimes”.

You just need to read between the lines. Who told him it's the will of a nation that's 90% racist white & with all the pushback he has been getting for about a decade now? He's basically saying, it's not his career goal (which is a lie based on how he's moving) but he's entitled to it. Having unnecessary self of entitlement tend to make people act desperate & out of character. And that's basically what we're seeing here from Big Dris cos someone who's as super pro-black as he's woould only put his foot in his mouth out of desperation.

Listen, I'm the biggest Idris Elba fan but I've to be objective. The man has been positioning himself to be the next 'Bond' for a long time. It's the reason why he picked the 'Luther' role. And most of his subsequent roles after that have been about the same objective. All the martial art & stuffs he does are also good pointers.

Also, he didn't need to do this cos James Bond is a Cold War Spy fictional movie created for propaganda & there were black British spooks all over Africa during the Cold War. And there are tons of black British spooks out there today in 2023. Just cos cacs attached white male masculinity to James Bond & are trying to make him a historical figure - that doesn't mean he's. A black person can play Bond. Idris is just too desperate at this point due to the racist push back he's getting hence he's chatting shyt whilst being out of character.

everybody running the corrupt imperialistic empire is a puppet... cacs included

some puppets are at the top of the pyramid... some are at the bottom...

the fact remains... we hold the capability to operate at the top like any other cac

Not disputing that, the crux of the matter is what you said about 'Imperialistic Empire' which means the system. Also, the 'imperialistic empire' is still a white supremacist one & both the cacs at the top/bottom benefit from it either directly or indirectly with white priviledge & will do anything to keep it that way. Conversely, the black puppets don't & the ones at the top are useful tools to further destroy the ones at the bottom.

Being a useful tool controlled by the puppetmasters who're pulling all the strings is easy. All you need to be is a sellout who can serve certain objectives/interests of the puppetmasters, to keep the empire rolling. But building a system with us as the puppetmasters is the difficult part. We're not anywhere close.

Being a puppet is easy. Being a high level puppet isn't.

So let's discuss the real question...

Who has helped the black community more. You or Obama...

I already have a response to your response. Hopefully you can drop something that will surprise me

Too many Black people think it’s their responsibility to eradicate racism.

I won’t call him a c00n, but that “racism is only as powerful as we allow it to be” comment is terribly misguided. :snoop:
This is where I'm at. Very strange of him to say he's experienced racism but thinks we talk about it too much and should stop talking about it, because the world is obsessed with race. No, white people are obsessed with race, and we're victims of their own ignorance.

This was an ass backwards statement from Idris.

The way OP titled it is way worse than what was written in the actual article.

In the end it even says this:
"Nevertheless, Elba acknowledges his race and says no matter what, he is still the “same black.”"

Folks dont read beyond the click bait headlines.

Here is a simple way to look at it for slow folks.

Would you rather be known as the best black actor in the world or known as the best actor in the world? Those are 2 completely separate things and we know which one folks will pick.

Yeah that’s my biggest issue with what he said. Most peopl who haven’t really had the opportunity to travel the world and have philosophical conversations with a Greek person who was inspired to learn about black history by seeing Malcom X, or know that there is a segment of Russians who admire Angela Davis as a hero, or talked about the rise of racism through colonialism with a Vietnamese scholar. It’s therefore easy to make sweeping generalizations about entire groups of people. Once you do these things that’s a lot harder hence my understanding of an internationally acclaimed actor like Idris taking that stance - even if there are elements I disagree with. But I do get as an artist wanting to be perceived purely as an artist.

All of that said, the part about racism only being as powerful as we allow it is way off and shows an abysmal understanding of the ramifications of this country’s utilization of racism on a systemic level to underprivilege its black citizens and can be used as fuel for right wing propaganda.
