whatsapp has a better interface than imessage. you can see pics, have your own background, pictures get sent better, gifs etc. some ppl prefer whatsapp...some prefer imessage/text. in Canada whatsapp is popular

Outside of situations where you can't communicate using your normal cell coverage or where you wanna keep the convo secret whatsapp has no purpose.
The default messaging app on my phone does most of the that superficial stuff yall named.
