To me, there's a certain way of doing it that makes it good and heartfelt. I notice that many rappers will get very lazy when it comes to effort when they make heartfelt songs where its lIke just plain corny. Kid Cudi and Joe Budden come to mind especially kid Cudi. Joe will explain why he's depressed but he will do it on a wack ass beat or in a way that is boring where it's like I'm not listening to this shyt. He has the emotion, the rhymes and etc but he needs better beats and presentation. Kid Cudi is the worst because he will make some simple minded shyt saying he's sad, muttering where he's not understandable and sounding absolutely horrible singer wise, and then not even rap on top of that. It's like wtf is he doing. Dude had a few songs that were okay but they could have been better if he actually put in somewhat of an effort into it. Then he has the nerve to act cocky or like he's contributing something when he's not.

I can see why people don't like that shyt but at the same time, I think too many people think that it's okay to hide their grief, misery and sadness instead of being open about it. That shyt kills. I know for a fact how difficult it is to hide it and sometimes people see it. I can't knock someone for saying they are hurting. It's better than being on drugs trying to medicate.

I saw the thread title and immediately thought that the OP can't be much of a fan of Z-Ro :mjlol:

He even lampshades it in this song:

Depends on what they're talking about. If they're talking about real life struggles like Pac, Beanie Sigel, DMX, Scarface, etc. I get into it. If they're talking about how their girlfriend dumped them or some emo bullshyt, then I'll pass. I'd personally rather hear real stuff people can relate to then fantasy crap about cars and hoes.

To each his own, but you're saying that you don't listen to DMX, Scarface, Joe Budden, Em...
