If Aaliyah was still here, do you think she would be the best female artist in R&B/Pop right now?

So we're going to act like Aaliyah's catalogue hasn't aged gracefully? Her last album sounds new still to this day. You can't tell me "Rock the Boat" "Loose Rap" "More than a Woman" doesn't sound fresh. She made authentic rnb music rather than spewing out pop bullsh*t to cater to the masses. Her and brandy didn't sell out and stuck with their black rnb audience unlike mrs. carter :sas1:

Oh and :duck: about Aaliyah being on the same level as Mya:mjlol: Aaliyah had a hit film, platinum records, was about to start a clothing line with kidada jones, was set to be in The Matrix, was gonna do a More Than a Woman remix with Just Blaze :mjcry:

Hell Naw. Love baby Girl. Respect. R.i.p but she were still around, she most likely would have nothing to do with R&B. She'd probably be onto other ventures like acting.

Her short catalog is still one of the best, and one of the catalogs that still gets played highly in most rotations.

LOL @ u downplaying Beyonce and then pointing the finger at those downplaying Aaliyah.
Because ya not being objective , Beyonce doesn't have a era alerting/defining album or song like Aaliyah did when she came out with One and A Million (the song & the album) , go ahead and name one , i'll wait .....

Beyonce really doesn't have a definitive album. The last two are the closest. She has era defining songs, but she hasn't made that one album that has changed, or defined an era. Her self-titled album from a couple of years back kind of did and Lemonade built on that by redefining what a visual album could be. With her self- titled album, she popularized the surprise album and spearheaded the industry adopting the Friday release date.

Musically, nothing she's done has interrupted musoc in the way that Aaliyah's One In A Million did.

the problem with everything u saying is that u talking like i'm taking a side....and i'm not taking a side. I'm objective, unlike you. So when u shyt on Bey to big up Aaliyah it stands out.

Because ya shytting on Aaliyah to big up Beyonce but have yet to provide facts to back up ya sentiments , Ya claim Aaliyah was barely poppin when she was winning awards and breaking billboard records right before her demise and have game changing songs and album under her belt , but prop up Beyonce like she's a musical phenomenon but have yet to name one pivotal thing she's done to change the game on a musical and style level (Which I'm still waiting for you to name)

I love the part where u say she doesn't have an "era defining" album then u go on to contradict yourself and say she kinda does and how she redefined the visual album and the suprise album which would be "era defining."

R Kelly, Missy, Timb and Static gave her the beats but SHE made it good music. She put the soul and vibe into it. If Ciara sung "If Your Girl Only Knew", it wouldn'tve had the jazzy, bluesy swag to it. If Mya sang "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number" it would've lacked the passion and heart. Just because someone is handed over a great beat doesn't mean that it'll be a great song. That's up to the artist. Once again she was 15 when her first album came out and listen to the conviction she was able to put into her voice as if she was speaking directly to you.

She put her heart into her craft and that's what makes her and even pac's music so timeless. You can tell when someone put all of their passion into their music.

Like @R.O. Double said Brandy and Monica were both significantly bigger stars than her in the 90s.

Aaliyah was a middle of the pack artist. She had a fan base, but her career has been greatly enhanced by nostalgia. It's funny that you try to belittle Beyonce's career by calling her manufactured and soul less when that's exactly how Aaliyah was viewed when she was alive. I'm assuming you're young, because most of the people that hold Aaliyah up on a pedestal didn't actually witness her career when she was alive. So I'm not going to hold your ignorance against you.

Breh Beyonce was Aaliyah's understudy in the 90's up until 2001. Pay attention to who was interviewing who :mjlol:
