If Aaliyah was still here, do you think she would be the best female artist in R&B/Pop right now?

Quiet a few legends, bruh bruh

Lionel Richie who was with The Commodores BEFORE hitting it big solo. Hell, Lionel was even bigger AFTER he left the group

Same with Curtis Mayfield. He left the Impressions and had an even bigger career after the fact AND was writing and producing for artists like Aretha and The Staple Singers and many others.

MICHAEL JACKSON! Jackson 5 and THEN Michael Jackson the "King of Pop"

I hear you but it's easy to say "Beyonce was on this path or that path" NOW when you look at where she is in the game today, but NO ONE foresaw this beforehand.

You just proved my point, breh lol. The people you just named are undoubtable legends - Lionel, Mayfield, Mike. And they had similar paths, and like Beyonce, they all had contemporaries who were as big or if not bigger than them at their times. Mike had Prince, Lionel had Marvin etc.

Are you telling me if Marvin Gaye didn't die one or more of them wouldn't have been who they were/are?

I said everything in the above posts to say this:

As cool as Aaliyah was, as good as some of her music was, as beautiful as she was, as mediocre an actress as she was, her life/death, with each passing year, is becoming more and more inconsequential to the Beyonce story.

As a matter of fact, it's not fair to mention them together, because one of them has had 15+ years of life to do more than the other.

This debate should, but never will, die.

Done :lolbron:

I look forward to dapping but not posting in your next thread dedicated to a slightly above-average woman :russ:

I didn't read all of your post, just half of it. So forgive me

All I was saying was a few people have done it AND the people who have, I wouldn't dare put Beyonce' in their category.

Beyonce' ain't on the same level as Michael, Lionel or definitely not Curtis. That's all.

She winning in a very sugar watered era and people fail to realize that for many reasons
1. They too young or ain't been bought up on music before the last 15 years
2. Many don't know music out of the last 15 years, so their ears are set to this times we in with a bunch of bullshyt lol

LOL at the bolded, I'll see you there! :lolbron:

I really think you should read all of it, not just 'cause it took a minute, but I truly think it makes sense, and it may not change your mind, but it'll make sense.

No, you're a stan with a plan and that's just to come in here and tell me why Beyonce' is the best thing since slice bread and I'm not having eating the dish you trying to serve me :quikumad:
If you search my posts on beyonce you'd see I'm quite the opposite. But please keep on with thinking Aaliyah, of all the singers to debut in the mid 90's, would be the one to defy all odds and not only be amongst the leading women in r&b/pop but would be the one to best beyonce :dead:

Edit: in fact, @ThiefyPoo please corroborate my lukewarm feelings toward beyonce, I know you're a poster who has seen it firsthand (told me to get the fukk out her album thread :lolbron:) :salute:

We all family here, so no harm, no foul. It's just an open discussion, that's all. All of this is just a friendly conversation.

Naw, I just felt like because Aaliyah was still on the verge of just making it really big, she could've been the 1. That's all I'm saying.

'ppreciate it.

Oh yeah, no problem. I didn't mean no disrespect at all, bruh. I was bust skimming your posts and then others instead of reading it in full;

Cause I know what it's like to put some work in a post and then have a nikka not really even take the time to read what you posted when what you posted was as clear and precise as can be.

Great post, I enjoyed reading it. :salute:Again, my bad homie. :myman:

Once Beyonce went solo she really didn't have much competition.

I think Amerie got blackballed from the mainstream crowd.:yeshrug:

Amerie didn't get blackballed. She was never THAT huge with the mainstream crowd. Ashanti and Alicia Keys dominated during the time Amerie was out.

Those are two reasons why Aaliyah wouldn't have dominated the scene either. Beyonce herself had to come from the back of the line. Alicia was killin' it for years. Ashanti had huge moments as well.

This is why it's hard to predict where Aaliyah would've been: music is unpredictable. When you look at her contemporaries, I don' t think anyone saw Monica having albums bigger than Brandy's a decade after "The Boy Is Mine". Monica came back from a flopped album with a single produced by Missy. Several female R&B artists from the 90's experienced sizable comebacks in the '00's and '10's. Mary had her two biggest first week sales ever and set records last decade. Faith had a nice comeback in '05 after leaving Bad Boy.

Aaliyah could've very well been given Brandy's Afrodisiac and Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad albums had she lived. We don't know. We can only speculate.

Ehh. I still think something happened to career. Her career really popped off in 05 when 1 thing came out. That breakfast club interview she did a while back had me like :patrice:.

Amerie didn't have a follow-up after "1 Thing"... she was one of those artists who'd always have a strong lead single, but nothing big enough to keep the ball rolling.
