If Aaliyah was still here, do you think she would be the best female artist in R&B/Pop right now?

go direct the "mtv" diary comment to the poster who claimed beyonce in her own solo person was more successful than aailiyah at the time.
if that was true, she wouldve gotten her own diary. and if the group was seen in a way that you're claimin and they did other ones with other artists, why was there not another type show made for them by mtv or bet. i dont even remember behind the scenes shyt. not that i was watching mtv like that but i remember the summer of 2001 very well.
i remember summers more than any other season usually.... and that summer had DC quietly accepting their best pop album to date and living off the bootylicious song
that went viral.... even got to certain hood heads who knew that word frm snoop dogg.
that was the MOST GHETTO DC ever got with their fan base.... no crip was playing destinys child... but sure as fukk they playing "let me know" in their room alone.....
and im not trying to be funny.
aaliyah was loved. beyonce is pop culture in 2001

keep bringing up sales and marketing, but aaliyah didnt want that type marketing beyonce got and wanted.
aaliyah was happy staying the princess. beyonce wanted to go after mary j bliges title and add some tina turner to it

At first Aaliyah wanted to be a young MJB now she was okay with being the princess. I see where this going

aaliyah wanted to be the younger mary j blige. cmon now.

heres a fun fact:

2001: Jay Z Unplugged:

beyonce gets mad that Jay called mary "the queen" on the album.
mary thanks jay and is humbled to be asked to perform on that TV SHOW by him that was turned into an album. with a secret song

true story....

19 and remember survior selling 10 million ww in one year and WOTW selling 1 million per year from 1999-2001. You can easily look these stats up.

Beyonce was still apart the group and the leader. Whatever success was DCs is beyonces success too. She was apart of bigger projects than Aaliyah's projects and more people bought projects with Beyonce face on it than Aaliyah. Survivor and TWOT sold more than every Aaliyah album except her last one. That means more people own projects with beyonces face on it than they do Aaliyah's. the only real difference isKelly, Michelle Letoya Latavia Solange Farrah Franklin and whoever else was in that group face is on it too. dangerously in love sold more than Aaliyah's first two albums too. Columbia never believed In her but that doesn't change the fact that she had hits right after a "flop" song. She didn't struggle like you trying to say she did. Every song that came shortly after work it out was a hit.

The DC albums also sold more than any Beyonce album. Those albums didn't sell solely because of Beyonce especially because Beyonce wasn't leading all of the songs. Its still a package deal no matter how you cut it. If that was the case, there would've been no need to ever put out a DC album and Beyonce would've come out the gate solo.

Furthermore, her success as a lead singer of DC would've been enough for her label to have faith in her debut. Evidently it wasn't and she had to prove her worth as a solo act outside of the group.

You even acknowledge the rest of the group, so it begs the question of what are you arguing.

DC was sold records than Aaliyah while she was alive and there's nothing wrong with that because Aaliyah undoubtedly was taken too soon and I miss her, but if we being real here Beyonce reached a higher peek both while Aaliyah was alive and after.

How did Beyonce reach a higher peak? Aaliyah was in a movie that played in theaters while Beyonce was in a MTV remake of Carmen. Beyonce did a few features while Aaliyah had a #1 hit solo.

Yeah, we all know Beyonce went on to be one of the biggest stars ever, but to make it like Beyonce was a factor as a solo artist in '01 is rewriting history.

somebody needs to tell @phantom 4 lyfe that shes on the wrong message board.

since when did we start accepting these stan-zine postsers on sites like these?

:camby:

bet didnt even fukk with destiny's child the way mtv did. bet fukked with aaliyah and mtv joined that wave.
because mtv and bet are in URBAN households......

LOL. you weren't around.

BET was rockin with destinys child way harder than Aaliyah by '99.
they got more play on urban radio than Aaliyah as well.
and they were show-stealers at things like the soul train awards - which brings me back to an earlier question, of where are Aaliyah's memorable performances at award shows & such?

Aaliyah was a star is all that needs to be said. People were calling her a superstar before she died.

Uum, DMX was on the screen for that movie all of, but 5 minutes. Aaliyah was the lead actress and her songs were the biggest from the soundtrack so that success of that movie was partially due to her star power more so than DMX's.

"03 Bonnie & Clyde" was a huge single. That was the beginning of the whole Jay and Beyoncé being an item talk.

"Work It Out" was Beyoncé's first solo single, so of course people took it serious. It just wasn't successful. Regardless of whether it was part of the roll-out for an album, the song was what was chosen to launch her solo career. It was the first song to introduce her to the world as Beyoncé.

Yeah accuse people of having some mental disorder when you can't form a legit argument.

And again, you're missing the point (which wasn't even directed at you in the first place). Beyoncé, like any other lead singer of a successful group, wasn't guaranteed success a solo artist.

doesn't matter if DMX was in the movie for 5 seconds. he was promoted as having a lead role.

we already knew jay & beyonce were an item before that song.

"work it out" is clearly a soundtrack concept record. I'm not going back-n-forth about it anymore.

Ive been asking you for YEARS if you have a mental disorder. theres a clear communication gap, buddy.

Since when do they not put stars such as DMX in the top billing of a movie? His face appears nowhere on the promo for the movie

It doesn't matter when the speculation started, "Bonnie & Clyde" pretty much confirmed everything.

In regard to "Work It Out":
Knowles' "Work It Out," produced by the Neptunes, is the first single from both the soundtrack and her own Dangerously in Love, due in October.

Dr. Evil, Dr. Dre Both Lend Remixes To 'Goldmember' Album

^^^ "bu, bu, but, "Work It Out" wasn't part of the roll-out for the album":camby:

Last, next time you wanna erroneously diagnose someone with a mental disorder, you might wanna lay off using plural pronouns such as "we" to refer to yourself.

She would've been past her prime just like everybody eventually gets past their prime. And keep it real she was not as huge as y'all make her out to be.

By the way it's funny how people in this thread had to discredit Beyonce in order to big Aaliyah up.

Beyoncé was not discredited to big up Aaliyah. Saying Beyoncé was bigger than Aaliyah in 2001 is in error because Beyoncé wasn't solo at that point.

She made great music, but with the way music turned out, she made have been done by 2005. Everything went real pop, and you don't hear that true R&B sound like that anymore.

But idk, I'm just speculating.

I think she would still make music but think she would have been a big movie star by now her movie career was really taking off she was going to be in that matrix sequel.

your average person didn't see the movie case & promotional posters. DMX was strategically given heavy placement in movie clips for the videos and iirc, the commercials as well, as this movie was promoted heavily to the urban music crowd.

as for "work it out", it sounds like they were gonna put out the real lead single before the album dropped. cuz "work it out" was out long before October breh.

you've already been diagnosed. take your medicine.

So Aaliyah wasn't in any of the commercials or promo?

No matter how you try to spin it, "Work It Out" was the first single. It was the real single until it flopped. And you should know singles came out months before the album in that era.

Breh, if anyone on this forum has a disorder, it's clearly you. You even admit to being wacky and post with aliases and often use plural pronouns when you really mean to refer to yourself. On top of that uou have an unhealthy obsession with downplaying artists you claim not to care much about, yet you be all up in the threads.
